An unidentified male adult died when two tankers caught fire and exploded last night on Ijebu Ode- Ibadan expressway.
The accident occurred in front of NASFAT, according to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE.
The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi said eyewitness accounts indicated that the driver of the first tanker loaded with premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol, lost control while speeding, fell into a ditch, and caught fire.
Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi explained that another tanker driver who saw the first vehicle on fire decided to help out, and in the process, his tanker also got engulfed by fire.
The TRACE spokesman said one person died in the inferno.
Mr Akinbiyi urged motorists to be careful around Ijebu Ode- Ibadan expressway or take alternative routes if they could.
Meanwhile, at the time of this report, operatives of TRACE, Federal Road Safety Corps, and policemen are on the ground monitoring the situation.
