Oyo state has won three gold medals, one silver medal and four bronze medals on the first day of the national para sports festival in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Chairman of Oyo state sports council, Chief Gbenga Adewusi, made this known while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.

Chief Adewusi commended the Athletes for their impressive and outstanding performances on the first day of the tournament stressing that they need to intensify their efforts for optimal performances.

He disclosed further that Orusa Clifford won Gold medal for the shot put deaf sports, while his colleague, Ikechukwu Omenofor also grabbed Gold medal for the para athletics in short put and Joyce Otun won Gold medal in para karate.

The Chairman stated further that Samuel Etu won silver for para athletics long jump and Ayorinde Victor grabbed bronze medal for para athletics long jump while Tijani Damola won bronze medal for the para athletics 100 meters.

Also, Olasupo Temitope won bronze medal for canoeing,1000m further male categories while Alayode Oluwatoyin also won medals for canoeing 100m k1 female categories.

A statement from the Director, Media and Communications, Oyo State Sports Council, Mr Tunde Ajibike says that the chairman expressed optimism that the participants from oyo State would excel in other games before the end of the tournaments.

“The Athletes from Oyo state will come out with unique and outstanding performances that will qualify them for international competitions” he said.
