All is now set for the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Oyo state holding at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The primary which is to determine the flag-bearer of PDP in the 2023 general election is between the incumbent governor, Seyi Makinde and former Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Azeem Gbolarumi.

Radio Nigeria correspondent reports that 1096 delegates across 351 wards in Oyo state are participating in the primary.

Addressing the delegates before the election, one of the aspirants and the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde had commended his only contender, Azeem Gbolarumi for joining the governorship race.

Governor Makinde who said they both agreed to follow the process described his opponent’s efforts as deepening democracy adding that no matter the outcome of the election, they would come together after the primary.

On his part, the PDP governorship aspirant, Azeem Gbolarunmi while recognizing Engineer Seyi Makinde as leader of the party called for unity in the party.

Alhaji Gbolarumi who however expressed discontent with the running of the party stressed the need for true reconciliation to bring back aggrieved members to the party.

As at the time of filling this report, accreditation of delegates has been concluded while voting would soon commence.

It would be recalled that Oyo state PDP had concluded its  State House of Assembly and National Assembly primaries.
