A herbalist, Mr Samson Ogundele has been arrested by the police in Ogun for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 17 year old apprentice who approached him for spiritual consultations to find missing money.

The suspect was apprehended at Ọjà Ọ̀dàn in Yewa North local government area of the state following a complaint of attempted rape lodged by another apprentice at the police station.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, 9 teenage hairdressing apprentices had consulted the herbalist to help them in finding a missing 1000 naira note and had paid 700 naira as consultation fee before the incident.

The PPRO explained that the teenage girls accused the herbalist of holding separate sessions with them one after the other and it was the third apprentice that raised the alarm over attempted rape while another girl later complained that she was actually defiled by the herbalist during the purported consultation and was sworn to secrecy.

Mr Oyeyemi said the police, led by the Divisional Police Officer, Mr Gabriel Ikechukwu effected the suspect’s arrest and took the victim to the state General Hospital, Ọjà Ọ̀dàn where the Doctor confirmed that she had been defiled.

He pointed out that the State commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole had directed that the suspect, who confessed to the commission of the crime, should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
