Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has charged political stakeholders to embrace peace during campaigns.

NSCDC Commandant in Oyo state, Mr Micheal Adaralewa stated this during an interactive session that involved the HODs, Area Commanders, HOU and Divisional Officers in all the 33 Local Councils and 35 LCDA’s held at the State Command Headquarters Agodi, Ibadan.

He urged politicians and their supporters to conduct themselves well during the campaign as it is officially declared open today according to the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“The politician should embrace peace and know that they cannot govern over the dead and also admonished the Stakeholders involved in the electioneering process in the state, starting from the campaign and proper election time to be God-fearing in discharging their duty”

He called on the officers and men of the Corps especially the Arms Squad, Agro Ranger, Female Squad, and Counter Terrorism Unit to see themselves as part of the process to achieve smooth electioneering by not compromising on the assignment given to them. 

Commandant Adaralewa stated further that officers and men of the Corps are receiving training and retraining all the time, especially on ways to prevent abnormality during campaign and election time, hence the need for optimal professionalism while discharging their duties. 

“He called officers and men of the corps to be law abiding and good ambassadors of the organization. 

He also enjoined traditional rulers, Religious leaders and Landlords Associations to warn their subjects to conduct themselves in a manner that would not bring violence before, during and after the election. 

 “Political parties should inform the security agencies of their Campaign programme in other to provide adequate security at the campaign ground and also to maintain Peace, Protection of lives and National Assets of the country.

Commandant Adaralewa later enjoined the Political parties to go by the rules stated by INEC on campaign guidelines because anyone found doing anything against the guideline will be dealt with according to the law.
