Special counsel to the Oyo State Governor, a senior advocate of Nigeria, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde has called for the restructuring of the Nigerian Police Force for effective policing in the country.

The legal luminary made the call while addressing newsmen on the issues confronting the oneness of the country.

Chief Ayorinde said there is no way a central Police force could adequately control the whole nation with the continuous population growth.

Chief Ayorinde maintained that the creation of the Nigerian Police Council by the federal government has not increased the effectiveness of policing in the country.

On restructuring the country before the election, Chief Ayorinde said he did not see the possibility of having a holistic restructuring of the country before the election.

Chief Ayorinde averred that “If there is no personal relationship between the police control body and the governor and the governor has to rely on personal goodwill with the commissioner of police, the commissioner of police too should also have personal goodwill with the governor so that the state can support the command in the state.

“But the ultimate authority comes from the Inspector general of police, he also takes his own instructions, from the commander- in – Chief of course.

“It still coming down to restructuring.”We can’t have a single police force for a country like Nigeria anymore, No it is not possible.
