Governments at all levels have been told to give adequate funding to entrepreneurship and formal education to end poverty in the country.

Nigeria’s business mogul and former President, Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Mr Goodie Ibru stated this while delivering the 7th Emmanuel Alayande Memorial Distinguished Alumni lecture organized by Ibadan Grammar School Old Students Association, IGSOSA, at the school main auditorium, in Ibadan

Mr Ibru while delivering the lecture entitled: “Education as a tool for socio-economic transformation and wealth creation”, bemoaned the current level of poverty and out-of-school children, saying it was imperative for the Nigerian government to emulate developed and other African nations and fund the nation’s education sector and vocation so as to reduce unemployment.

This coupled with reduced taxation, according to Mr Ibru would help small-scale businesses to thrive in the country.

“Over one million graduates are produced every year and not all of the will be employed the only way out is entrepreneurship”.

Representatives of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Oyo State Ministry of Education commended IGSOSA for contributing to educational development in the state.

Earlier the National President, IGSOSA, Mr David Mako said the topic of the lecture was chosen in view of the challenges confronting Nigeria’s educational system and high level of unemployment and insecurity

The lecture featured a debate on the good and bad sides of social media and a poem on the importance of education to national development.
