Oyo State Government is to convene a  meeting of the management of the Polytechnic Ibadan Governing Council and the students over a protest on the increase of the alleged hostel refusal fee.

The meeting which is scheduled to hold at the state’s Ministry of Education’s Conference room on Tuesday, 10th January would address issues raised by the students.

Radio Nigeria gathered that Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan are protesting the increase in the amount payable for hostel refusal fees from 5000 to 15000

Addressing the hundreds of students who protest at the Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Deputy Governor, Chief Bayo Lawal said the Oyo State Government would look into the suspension of the students union government by the management institution following the protest.

The Deputy Governor, therefore, appealed for the calm of the parties involved with a promise to resolve the matter amicably.

Also, the Commissioner for Education, Abiodun Abdul Raheem in an interview explained that the meeting would provide an avenue for parties with a view to solving the problem

Earlier, the Management of The Polytechnic, Ibadan suspended the Students’ Union Executives of the institution and postponed the first-semester examination intended to commence today, Monday 9th January 2023 as a result of what it described as an unwarranted and politically motivated protest embarked upon by the students.

A statement from the Institution signed by the Registrar, Mrs Modupe Theresa Fawale disclosed that the examination has been postponed until further notice while the Students’ Union is suspended indefinitely.
