The Babaloja of Umulukuro market, Amuloko, Ona Ara local government area of Oyo State, Alhaji Dauda Opakunle has called on the state government to establish fire stations in all the local government areas of the state.

Alhaji Opakunle stated this after goods worth millions of naira were razed by fire at the market.

He noted that the fire rescue team that put out the fire which ravaged the market came all the way from the challenged area of Ibadan

According to the Babalooja, the fire outbreak started around some minutes to ten o’clock on Saturday morning and spread rapidly before property and goods could be salvaged.

Alhaji Opakunle who said the cause of the fire was not known noted that around fifteen shops which deal in sales of radio sets, shoes, plastics, medicines, foodstuffs and other household items were affected.

Also reacting, the Iyalooja of the market, Mrs Victoria Adeboje appealed to the government to come to the aid of the victims as most of them sourced loans from financial institutions to purchase the goods burnt in the fire outbreak.

While condoling with victims of the unfortunate incident, the Babaloja of Ona Ara local government area, Elder Mathew Adenekan said they would organise a sensitisation programme for their members on safety precautions to guard against fire incidences.
