The Action Democratic Party, ADP gubernatorial candidate in Oyo State, Mr Akim Yusuf says the Federal Government and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC have to improve on the election management system and security in the next generation election.
Mr Yusuf stated this shortly after casting his vote alongside his wife at Polling Unit 130, Ward 12, Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The finance expert turned politician, who hinged his call on voter apathy, explained that pockets of violence which resulted in the death of some people in the Ibadan metropolis scared electorates from exercising the franchise.
“The turnout was very poor, it’s evident that we have a lot of improvements to do on our election management system and of course the security in terms of political violence, which I can adduce to the voter apathy being experienced. ” Yusuf said.
Mr Yusuf commended the INEC and the crowd control prowess of the security personnel at the polling station and expressed optimism that future elections would witness an upgrade.
“To the glory of God, it was a very peaceful and orderly environment, the BVAS worked properly, the INEC staffers were very polite and courteous, very good crowd control.” He added.
