Ogun State Government has described the commencement of building construction without authorization from its Building Production Management Authority, OGBPMA, as illegal.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Olatunji Odunlami stated this while speaking on the Letter of Authorisation issued to a private company along Sagamu Expressway after an inspection visit to the company construction site by the OGBPMA team, led by its Acting General Manager, Mr Olakunle Oladiran.

Mr Odunlami, who noted that the step became necessary to avert the demolition of structures in Ogun State, explained that the directive was in compliance with the Building Production Management Regulations 2022.

He pointed out that developers were expected to notify OGBPMA through a Letter of Intent, seven days before the commencement of building construction.

Earlier, OGBPMA Acting General Manager, Mr Olakunle Oladiran had explained that it was the responsibility of the agency to ensure that buildings were built rightly with quality materials and under the supervision of qualified professionals in the building industry.
