Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has presented a Certificate of Return to the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo following his victory at the supplementary election.

Presenting the certificate at the INEC office in Abeokuta, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Niyi Ijalaye said the presentation was in accordance with the provisions of Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, stressing that the Commission was mandated to issue a Certificate of Return within 14 days to every candidate who had been returned elected under the law.

In a remark, the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo promised that he alongside his other 25 members-elect of the incoming 10th Assembly had resolved to build on the legacy of the present legislature through the enactment of legislation that would address the revolving dynamics of the society.

He further acknowledged that the present legislative system required expertise, rich experience, and apt knowledge; thus recommended the returning of experienced lawmakers to the State Houses of Assembly for improved service delivery.

Mr Oluomo commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for an improved electoral exercise in the last elections, describing it as the best, and implored the electoral umpire not to rest on their oars in the conduct of future elections 

The Speaker, who recounted the tough process of election in his constituency, sought more corporation from the people to the commission with a view to upholding the principle of free and fair election across the nation. 

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr Olakunle Oluomo was declared winner after the supplementary election held on April 15th,2023.
