A member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Adebola Sodiq has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police, Ogun State Command for allegedly raping a 20 years old lady.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement, said the suspect was apprehended following a report lodged at Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters by the victim, who claimed that the Corps member, who happened to be a boyfriend to her very close friend, came to her apartment on the 9th of May 2023 and asked her to take a stroll with him to the village junction to buy a gift for her in commemoration of her recently celebrated birthday.
The statement showed that the victim explained that as an intimate friend to the suspect’s girlfriend, she suspected no foul play, hence she followed him, but while they were going, the suspect asked her to follow him to the premises of the school where he was serving, to pick his wallet.
According to the statement, when they get to the school compound at Agbajege village, the suspect forcefully dragged her to his room
and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her despite pleading and crying for mercy.
It stated that on interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime but claimed that he did not know what came over him as at that time, while the victim had been taken to Owode Egba General Hospital by the Police for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr ni noOlanrewaju Oladimeji, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible prosecution.
