The Nigeria Police have warned that anyone who announces the result of the Ekiti State governorship election without authorization from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will be arrested and prosecuted.
Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Planning and Evaluation, Mr Abayomi Sogunle, gave the warning at a news briefing in Ado Ekiti.
Mr Sogunle said adequate security arrangements had been made to protect INEC permanent and ad hoc staff, members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and other critical personnel involved in the election.
He explained that four security operatives would be deployed to each polling unit to maintain law and order throughout the exercise.
The Commissioner of Police assured political parties of a level playing field and reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security agencies to neutrality during the poll.
He urged members of the public to report incidents of vote-buying and other electoral offences to security agencies.
On movement restrictions, Mr Sogunle said candidates sitting for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination, SSCE, journalists and other accredited election stakeholders would be allowed to move freely without harassment.
He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and religious leaders to continue supporting security agencies to ensure a peaceful election.
The Commissioner of Police also advised residents to call 08062335577 in the event of any emergency.
Corps members have been encouraged to see the challenges facing Nigeria as stepping stones to greatness, rather than reasons for discouragement.
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, advised while declaring open the 2026 Batch A Stream Two orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
Represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth Development, Alhaja Kudirat Mustapha, the governor noted that the nation’s current challenges require the collective creativity, energy, and resilience of corps members to drive progress and national development.
“Gentlemen, corps members, you are beginning your service year at a time when our nation needs your energy, creativity, and resilience more than ever before. Nigeria’s challenges are real, but so are the opportunities. I urge you not to see this service year merely as a statutory obligation, but as a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to nation-building, develop leadership skills, and positively impact the communities where you will serve.”
Governor Makinde emphasized that the NYSC scheme, since its establishment in 1973, has remained a vital instrument for fostering unity, promoting national integration, and bridging ethnic, religious, and cultural divides.
He also urged corps members to take full advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme to become self-reliant.
“I encourage you to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme wholeheartedly. Acquire skills that will make you self-reliant, innovative, and economically empowered beyond your service year. The future belongs to those who are prepared, and this programme is designed to prepare you for life after NYSC.”
The governor further assured corps members of their safety and welfare throughout their service year, noting that Oyo State remains hospitable and peaceful.
“Oyo State is known for its rich history, hospitality, cultural diversity, and peaceful coexistence. We have deliberately created an enabling environment for corps members to live, work, and serve safely. I assure you that our administration will continue to prioritize your welfare, security, and well-being throughout your service year.”
Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that, through deliberate engagement and the commitment of Governor Makinde, the 4,000-capacity multipurpose hall at the Iseyin Orientation Camp has been tiled.
Mr Ola-Peters added that the current Stream Two exercise represents not only the continuation of the orientation programme but also a renewed commitment to achieving the 2026 Batch ‘A’ theme: “Revamping the Orientation Course Experience as a Platform for Impactful Service by Corps Members.”
He explained that this vision has challenged NYSC in the state “to reimagine the Orientation Course as more than a routine exercise. It is a deliberate and strategic foundation upon which you will build a year of relevance, innovation, and impactful service across communities.”
Mr Ola-Peters said 3,026 corps members comprising 1, 217 males and 1,809 females have so far been registered, while 451 other corps members representing 188 males and 263 females were dislodged to the Iseyin Permanent Orientation Camp for the exercise.
The Local Government Inspector of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Abbas Olalekan, has been arraigned before an Isaboq Magistrate Court in Abeokuta over alleged conspiracy and attempt to procure abortion.
The prosecutor, Mr Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offenses between January and March at Ikereku area of Laderin, Abeokuta.
Olalekan, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Bunmi Adelabu, applied for bail in the most liberal terms, citing Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A.K. Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of five hundred thousand naira with two sureties in like sum. One of which must be a blood relative while the other must be gainfully employed.
The magistrate also ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending perfection of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until April 14 for further hearing.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to make positive use of skills acquired during orientation camp.
He said the skills would help them remain self-employed after their service year.
The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Nafiu, gave the charge during an official visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.
He stressed the importance of vocational and entrepreneurial training.
Brigadier General Nafiu noted that those basic skills can serve as reliable sources of income within and outside Nigeria.
He added that such skills would reduce the struggle of seeking white-collar jobs after service.
Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Peters, said corps members had actively participated in camp activities.
Mr Peters also listed some needs of the camp, including the purchase of bunk beds.
Highlights of the visit included the celebration of corps members on their birthdays, cultural displays by different ethnic groups, and a meeting with camp officials.

In his address, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr Kayode Peters, enjoined the Corps members to take the Orientation Course seriously, and participate in all the three camp activities which he said included paramilitary drills, physical training, citizenship and leadership grooming, among others

The Oyo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr Abel Oche, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for implementing the new monthly allowance of seventy-seven thousand naira for corps members.
Mr Oche gave the commendation during his opening remarks at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch A, Stream One corps members, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
The NYSC expressed optimism that the new allowance, which took effect last month, would enhance the economic stability of corps members during their service year, urged the new members to align their conduct with the NYSC mandate and the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor gave the charge at the swearing in ceremony of 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 corps members held at the permanent orientation camp, Iseyin, Oyo state.
The Governor, whose address was read by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports development, Miss Wasilat Adegoke, explained that the current economic challenge requires ingenuity, exceptional skills and talents for a turn around.
He noted that it was expedient for the youths to upscale some entrepreneurial skills already learnt for personal economic sufficiency and that of the country.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, NYSC, Mr. Odoba Oche, enjoined the corps members to take advantage of the orientation activities so as to be better equipped for the one year mandatory service.
He admonished them to pay keen attention and take active role in the skill acquisition programme so as to add innovative ideas to their degree certificate to enable them stand out after the one year mandatory national service.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Chief Judge of Oyo state, Justice Iyabo Yerima and was witnessed by Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Oyebola Adeyeri III, security chiefs, traditional chiefs, clerics as well as representatives from corporate organisations.
The Acting Director, of General Services, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa has advised Corps Members to learn work ethics to improve their productivity and develop team spirit during their National Service year. She urged the Corps Members to use the service year to reflect on the future and improve themselves.
Mrs Baderinwa gave the advice at the NYSC Oyo Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin where she addressed the 2024 Batch C Stream 1 Corps members deployed to Oyo State and their dislodged counterparts from Lagos State currently undergoing their Orientation Exercise.
Mrs. Baderinwa who was on a working visit to the Camp, applauded both the Camp Officials and Corps Members for the warm reception extended to her and the lovely accolades.
Speaking on the good conduct being exhibited so far by the Corps Members since their arrival at the Camp, she charged them to sustain the tempo and continue to be law-abiding, while emphasising the importance of obedience to all the rules and regulations guiding the National Youth Service Corps.
“Orientation camp is a once-lifetime opportunity. Nurture the relationship you have now and keep the relationship you are making here”
She admonished them to make judicious use of the opportunity brought to the Corps Members by the Scheme, particularly, the Skill Acquisition And Entrepreneurship Development Programmes, SAED, stating that the essence of SAED was to prepare them for the future and raise a crop of future entrepreneurs that will not only be self-employed but employers of labour.
“NYSC is in collaboration with various financial institutions like Bank of Industry, BOI, Access, Wema Bank and others to give Corps Members interest-free loans and grants as startups for their businesses”
While cautioning the Corps members to be responsible in their use of social media, she charged them to spread positive news instead of negative news about the Scheme.
“Be mature in the use of your social media“. Make positive changes wherever you find yourself. It is allowed to speak up on issues bothering you, but should be done constructively” She noted.
Earlier in his brief, the State Coordinator NYSC Oyo, Mr Abel Oche noted that the Corps members displayed a high level of discipline.
The corpse of a serving corps member, Emmanuel Medaiyese has been discovered in his apartment in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The Corps member was assumed to have been dead for some days in his apartment at Sogbesan street, Oluwo area of the city before the discovery of his corpse.
Report says that his mother, concerned that she was unable to reach him on his mobile phone, had reportedly contacted one of his friends, Olumide, who eventually asked neighbours of the deceased to access the apartment where Emmanuel’s lifeless body was discovered.
Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola said the corps member was found without any visible sign of violence.
She explained that the police team that visited the scene observed that there were no indications that any crime was committed, adding that the Corpse had been deposited at the State hospital for Autopsy and further investigation would be carried by the command.
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has been applauded for nominating Miss Nafisat Buge a youth corps member who just completed the mandatory one-year national service as a commissioner designate.
Reacting to the nomination, Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mr. Olaoluwa Onifade on behalf of the corps’ Director General, Brigadier General Yisha’u Ahmed, described it as a clear testimony of the passion the governor has for youths.
The NYSC Coordinator said given the right atmosphere, the youths would excel in whatever capacity they were placed considering the various trainings they received during their service year, beginning with the orientation course and their primary assignment.
“Your consideration of someone who has just finished the service has filled the NYSC scheme and the entire youth constituency in the state with a strong sense of pride and I would like to appreciate His Excellency for this rare feat and singular honour done to boost the morale of the youths”.
Mr Onifade further stated that Governor Abdulrazaq’s continued support for the scheme and entire youths was a clear example that his youth-friendly leadership style is worthy of emulation.
The Kwara State NYSC Coordinator also congratulated the commissioner designate on the honour bestowed on her and asserted that she would remain a proud ambassador of the NYSC.
The commissioner-designate, Nafisat Buge holds a BSC in Library and Information Science from the University of Ilorin.
The NYSC in Oyo State says it has recorded low applications for redeployment from corps members who are in camp for the 2023 Batch C, Stream 2 Orientation course.
The State Coordinator NYSC, Oyo State, Mr. Abel Oche, made this known at the swearing-in ceremony of 2023 Batch C, Stream 2 corps members held at NYSC Orientation Camp Iseyin.
Mr. Oche explained that corps members, who came with the intention of relocating to their states of residence, changed their minds following a counsel interface with the camp officials.
He added that those, who had submitted applications, later had a rethink and withdrew them with the resolve to face the challenges of the one-year mandatory national service.
Declaring the Orientation course open, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde charged the corps members to give their best to enhance the development of the state when deployed to their respective community of service.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wosilat Adegoke, Governor Makinde assured corps members serving in the state of adequate security and welfare.
The three thousand and fifty-one corps members posted to Oyo State for the three weeks orientation course swore to the oath of allegiance led by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Mrs Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Rachael Akintola in the presence of dignitaries and representatives of heads of security agencies in the state.
The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has advised Corps members posted to the state to embrace the virtue
of selfless service and humility during their service year.
Governor Adeleke gave the advice at the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Ede, during the closing ceremony and terminal parade of the 2023 Batch C, stream I orientation course.
Represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, the Governor noted that the business of nation-building and integration required selflessness, sacrifice and humility.
“Therefore, let these virtues be your watchword throughout the service year. Be diplomatic in your dealings with the people, and be courteous and respectful at all times. Do not cast aspersion on their way of life but rather respect and embrace their diversity.”
Senator Adeleke implored them to embrace the challenges that lie ahead with enthusiasm and resilience, adding that their service year is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the communities where they will be posted.
He, however, assured them of the Osun State Government’s unwavering support and commitment to their welfare throughout the service year.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, of NYSC in Osun, Mr Ndoma Obim charged the corps members to embrace diversity, be responsible citizens, and strive for excellence in their various places of primary assignment.
He reminded them that they were now ambassadors of unity and positive change in Osun State, Lagos State and any State they may redeploy to for those of them going on redeployment.
“I also want to remind you that the NYSC Scheme is not just about service to your nation; it is also an opportunity for personal growth and development. Make the most of it, and you will not only impact the communities you serve but also transform yourselves in the process.” He said.
The State Coordinator, of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Oyo State, Mr. Odoba Oche, has admonished Corps members to take advantage of their service year to learn and enjoy the culture of the people in their host community so as to fulfil the national integration mission of the scheme.
Mr. Oche gave the admonition while addressing the 2023 Batch C stream 1 Corps members during the cultural carnival held at NYSC permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.
The NYSC boss who emphasized that culture was the identity that distinguished a particular group of people with reflection on their ways of life, counselled the corps members not to denigrate but rather embrace and promote the culture of their host communities in order to earn a sense of belonging and safety.
Earlier in his address, the Head of Socials Committee in the camp Mr. Lasaki Oladeji, encouraged Corps members to be proud of their culture and enthusiastically display it wherever they find themselves.
The carnival witnessed diverse beautiful cultural presentations and displays by corps members including Kalabari, Ijaw, Hausa, Yoruba, Gbari, Igbo and Edo.
The Management of the National Youth Service Corps says it has secured the release of one of the seven female prospective corps members abducted in Zamfara.
This was made known in a press statement by NYSC spokesperson, Eddy Megwa, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the said female corps member was rescued on Friday night at 12:30pn “through the help of security agencies”, while expressing optimism that the rest of the abducted corps will be released.
Part of the statement reads, “Management of the National Youth Service Corps wishes to convey to the general public that the Scheme, through the help of security agencies on Friday, 20th October, 2023 at about 12.30 pm secured the release of one of the female Prospective Corps Members abducted in Zamfara, out of the seven in captivity and the bus driver.
The scheme is confident that with the combined efforts of security agencies, the remaining will be released”.
The PUNCH reports that gunmen had on August 19 2023, abducted eight prospective corps members on a highway in Zamfara state, en route to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto.
The NYSC earlier announced the release of three of the abducted corps members on the 18th of September 2023, a month after they had been kidnapped.
The Kaduna State Police Command, on Thursday, confirmed the brutal murder of a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Member, Grace Chalya Silas, by yet-to-be-identified assailants in the state.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Mansir Hassan, told neswmen in an exclusive chat that the state Police Commissioner, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, has directed a manhunt for the killers of the Corps member.
Chalya Silas, who’s doing her one-year mandatory national service in the state, was reported to have been stabbed to death during her morning jogging at the Barnawa, in Kaduna South Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.
The deceased’s friends and coursemates at the University of Jos took to Facebook to mourn her.
One of them, Comfort Elisha, wrote on her Facebook handle, “No na. What is really happening to Jossite and the Special Education department? We haven’t finished mourning Kekefas Emmanuel, and now it’s Chalya, brutally killed in Kaduna during her morning jogging while serving her fatherland. May your killers know no peace Chalya. This is too much to bear.”
However, the Kaduna Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, while confirming the incident described the death of the Corps member as “tragic”.
Hassan said the Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, after an emergency meeting of the top hierarchy of the command, had ordered the Barnawa Divisional Police Officer and operatives to hunt for the killers of the Corps member.
The police spokesman said, “It’s a very tragic incident. She was performing her early morning jogging(exercise) when some miscreants(phone snatchers) on motorcycles pounced on her.
“The victim’s name is Grace Chalya Silas. She was a Corps member serving in Kaduna South.
“When the case was reported to the police, operatives responded swiftly and moved to the scene of the crime where they saw the victim in the pool of her own blood. She was rushed to the clinic, where she was later confirmed dead.
“Since the incident was reported to the police, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Yusuf Garba, held an emergency meeting with the top hierarchy of command over the matter. We are already in touch with NYSC in the state.
“The CP has directed the Barnawa DPO and Area Commander, to immediately hunt for killers of the Corps member and fish out the perpetrators of the dastardly act.”
The National Youth Service Corps has charged Corps employers to provide additional welfare package for Corps members so as to optimize their productivity in the one year national service.
Director General of the NYSC Brigadier-General Dogara Ahmed gave the charge while addressing the 2023 Corps Employers’ Workshop held at the Multi purpose hall of the NYSC Secretariat,Agodi, Ibadan.
Brigadier-General Ahmed, who spoke through the Director NYSC southwest area office, Mr. Amusan Oluwole lamented the non commitment of corps employers at providing stipends and accommodation for Corps members serving in their establishments adding that provision of welfare module commensurate with their services especially in the current economic realities would spur them to higher productivity.
While admitting that the security challenges in the country was a threat to the National Youth programme, The NYSC DG cautioned against over utilisation of Corps members and aiding and abetting Corps members to perpetuate truancy and other social vices.
A life Coach, Mrs. Funke Adetuberu, in a paper presentation entitled improving the welfare and security of corps members for increased productivity recommended that corps employers to provide parental guidance to the corps members in other to discover their potentials and discouraged the ”japa” notion amongst youths.
Earlier in an address of welcome, the state coordinator, NYSC, Oyo State, Mr Abel Oche enjoined employers of corps members to provide enabling environment to give way for talents and skills development in the national programme.
The workshop afforded corps employers, NYSC officials and corps members to extensively discuss and iron out grey areas in their participation in the scheme as well as fashion out possible solutions to them.
The Director General, DG of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed has expressed worry over the declining welfare provision for corps members by their employers.
The Director General while delivering a keynote address during the 2023 Corps Employer’s Workshop held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, in Ede, Osun State, noted that the issue of poor welfare for corps members had continually impeded their optimal performance and compromises the philosophy of the NYSC scheme.
Brigadier General Ahmed explained that the majority of those who made requests for corps members to be posted to their establishments did not provide accommodation for them and where such was provided; it was usually in deplorable conditions unfit for human habitation.
He also berated poor security of areas where the accommodations were provided, noting that many did not provide transportation or any allowance in lieu of transport for the corps members.
The Director General alleged some employers of corpers of conniving with them to commit truancy which often put their lives at risk.
“Many employers connive with those posted to them, allowing them to travel at will. In fact, we have evidence that some of the employers shared part of the allowance the federal government pays these children to permit them to leave their place of primary assignment. Unfortunately, we have lost some of them to this truancy. Last week, one had an accident in Kogi State while travelling without authorization, while two others died in an accident during an illegal journey”.
The Director General’s address which was delivered by the Deputy Director, Corps Development, South West Area of the NYSC, Mr Williams Ella, emphasized that the workshop was to enable both parties to find better ways to address the issues of corps members’ welfare so as to get optimal performance from them.
The employers of corps members also tabled certain challenges that continually affect some of the areas of welfare mentioned.
Mr Ademola Agbeko who represented Redeemers’ University, Ede said the federal government should start the welfare by paying a living monthly wage to the corps members and improve the security of lives and property in the country.
Similarly, Pastor Olaleye Sadiq pointed out that the attitude of some of the corpers, like not staying in accommodation provided by employers or staying out till late hours before returning home, among others had continued to hamper the efforts of employers aimed at securing them.
In an opening remark, the Osun State coordinator of the NYSC, Mr Ndoma Agbor Obim said the workshop with the theme, “Optimizing The Productivity of Corps Members Through Enhanced Welfare and Security During The Service Year”, is a significant milestone in the ongoing commitment to connecting talented corps members with employers who share the NYSC vision of fostering personal and professional growth.
Earlier, the Osun State Commissioner for Youth, Mr. Moshood Olagunju urged participants to take advantage of the workshop to understand and clear issues on their obligations in the welfare of the corps members.
Papers were presented by guest lecturers including Dr Olutosin Olufisayo of Adeleke University who spoke on, “Improving the Welfare and Security of Corps Members for Increased Productivity”.
In a bold statement that has caught the attention of the public, Award-winning actress and fitness enthusiast Kate Henshaw calls for the end of NYSC.
Henshaw has taken a firm stance on the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. program, advocating for its discontinuation.
She who has been an active advocate for youth empowerment and safety, has raised some concerns about the risks that young participants face in the current state of the program.
Henshaw questions the shifting relevance of the NYSC program, which was initially designed to foster unity, cultural exchange, and national integration among young Nigerians.
The actress expressed her concern about the safety of corps members who are posted to different parts of the country during their service year. Recent reports of security threats and incidents involving corps members in various regions have raised alarm bells, prompting questions about the feasibility of ensuring their protection throughout the program.

Recall that some months ago on the sweet mother and son exchange that ensued between Enioluwa and Kate Henshaw. Enioluwa shared photos of himself and Kate Henshaw on his verified Instagram, with an adorable caption speaking on their mother and son bond.

The National Youth Service Corps has said its Director General, Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Ahmed is working with the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and the military brigade to secure the release of eight corps members kidnapped in Zamfara State on Saturday.
The NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, made the development known on Wednesday.
“As I speak to you, the NYSC DG is in Zamfara state, and the NYSC is currently working with the police, the military brigade, and the DSS to release the eight corps members that were kidnapped in Zamfara,” Megwa said.
Gunmen had abducted eight members of the NYSC on a highway in Zamfara on Saturday. The corps members were travelling inside an AKTC bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State, en route to Zamfara State, to take part in the mandatory national service.
Local governments have been enjoined to take active part in the orientation course of corps members posted to Oyo state.
The State Coordinator, NYSC, Mr. Abel Odoba made the call at the swearing in ceremony of 2023 Batch B Stream 2 corps members held at the permanent orientation camp Iseyin, Oyo state.
Mr. Odoba, who explained that the orientation programme played pivotal role in introducing corps members to the scheme and the host state, said invitation had been sent to the chairmen of the thirty three local governments in the state to showcase the opportunities and areas of needs during the twenty-one day exercise.
“Engaging the youth for one year in the task of nation building is quite a laudable programme that the Scheme has been running for the past fifty (50) years. The three weeks duration of the Orientation programme will play host to various activities designed to ensure the accomplishment of the objectives of the NYSC Scheme.
These include paramilitary drills; physical training, citizenship and leadership grooming, lectures on skill acquisition for self-reliance. It is from this crucible that development, discipline, unity, self reliance and more are brewed.
For a country like ours to attain greatness, youths must be transformed by using a vision based approach i.e focus must be placed on building young people’s strength and skills. That is the whole essence of youth development.”
Declaring the orientation course open, the Oyo State Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde, represented by Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, reiterated his support for security and welfare of corps members serving the state.
“Let me also use this occasion to assure you that the State Government under my leadership has left no stone unturned in ensuring that you are safe and secured in Oyo state. The multi-agency security network in the State has all it requires to provide water tight security. This gives an assurance to the citizens, residents, and by extension corps members in the state to be able to sleep with their two eyes closed.”
Two thousand four hundred and forty-four comprising one thousand six hundred and seventy-three females and seven hundred and seventy-one males took the oath of allegiance led by the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Mrs Iyabo Yerima in the presence of signatories and representatives of heads of security agencies in the state.
A total of one thousand eight hundred and eight participants have been sworn in as members of the Batch B, Stream II orientation course of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC deployed to Osun State.
Also sworn in were those dislodged from Lagos to Osun State for this year national service.
These comprise five hundred and eighty eight males, one thousand, two hundred and twenty females, with nine hundred dislodged from Lagos State for the purpose of the orientation.
The Chief Judge of Osun State, Justice Bola Adepele-Ojo, who was represented by Justice Babafemi Akande, administered the oath of allegiance and service on the prospectus corps members as witnessed by NYSC partners, community leader, service chiefs and the representatives of the Governor.
Addressing the corps members after taken their oath, the Governor of the State, Senator Ademola Adeleke acknowledged what he described as “the bold and notable strides the NYSC had made in contributing to the socio -economic development of the state and the country, especially in the areas of education, rural health, infrastructure and agriculture.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths Affairs, Mr Moshood Olagunju, the Governor urged them to stay true to the national pledge and oath of allegiance sworn to by conducting themselves in civilized and constitutionally acceptable manner, use the digital and technology space to add value to themselves, others and the nation at large.
He implored them to embrace one another’s differences, make friends and relate freely with one another, cherishing, respecting their differences while diligently discovering one another’s similarity.
Earlier, in his address welcoming the corps members to camp, the Osun NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Agbor Obim Ndoma charged them to cooperate with officials to make the three weeks orientation a one in a lifetime opportunity to learn skill and other national values.
Mr Ndoma also emphasized the need to make the camp environment clean, observe strict hygiene, while he cautioned them against self medication, but approach the health facility on the camp.
He advised them to “sustain the relevance of the scheme by committing themselves to hard work, patriotic service and community development service. I urge you to work towards distinguishing yourselves during the service year as the scheme as a system of rewarding hard work and diligence”.
The Local Organizing Committee, LOC, for the 2024 National Sports Festival has inspected sporting facilities across the three senatorial districts of Ogun state.
The areas inspected include Remo Stars sports facilities at Ikenne, NYSC Orientation camp at Sagamu, MKO Abiola International stadium, Abeokuta, the Golf Resort in Abeokuta, and Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja.
The LOC Chairman, Chief Bukola Olopade who led other members of the committee described tartan track floodlights, scoreboard, the swimming pool, tennis courts, as infinitesimal in facilities that needed to be put in place.
Also, The Executive Secretary, Local Organizing Committee, Dr. Kweku Tandoh expressed satisfaction with the level of facilities provided by the state government for the festival.
Dr. Tandoh who said state had really shown the level of preparedness to host a befitting festival expressed optimism that most of the facilities for the festival would be ready in less than 16 months to the festival.
In a remark, The Chairman, venues and facilities committee, Dr. Emmanuel Igbinosa commended the state government for creating a friendly environment for private business to thrive.
Dr Igbinosa described the sports complex at Remo Stars in Ikenne as world-class that could host any international competition.
The festival is scheduled to hold in the Gateway state between November and December 2024
Oyo State government has offered palliative transportation of corps members from the Permanent orientation camp to their respective local government Areas of posting.
The State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde made the announcement at the closing parade of the three weeks orientation course for 2023 Batch B Stream I held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin.
Governor Makinde whose gesture threw the corps members into jubilation noted that he was briefed by the NYSC officials that the corps members had already contributed to mobilise commercial buses that would convey them to their various Local governments of posting adding that the palliative would ease the burden of transportation linked to the current economics realities.
Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Bayo Lawal, assured the corps members that their transport fares would be reimbursed by their respective Local government authorities.
He urged the corps members to live as change agents in their host communities, saying the country needed their solution-driven ideas and innovations to scale through the current economic challenge rocking the nation.
Earlier in a welcome address, The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Abel Oche tasked corps employers to be committed to the welfare and development of corps members posted to their establishment so as to maximize their potential.
Over two thousand corps members who attended the twenty-day orientation course received letters of posting to their respective places of primary assignment for the one-year mandatory national service.
The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has charged Local Governments, Employers, other stakeholders to prioritize the welfare and security of corps members posted to them.
Addressing members of the Batch B stream I of the NYSC during the closing ceremony at its Osun State permanent orientation Camp in Ede, Senator Adeleke said the corps employers and critical stakeholders in the society owed the corps members the duty of mentorship towards building quality citizens.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi charged the participants to integrate with their host communities and adapt to the new environment.
“I implore you to integrate yourselves with your host communities identifying with their problems and aspirations. Rid yourselves of ethnic prejudice, religious intolerance and fear by befriending the people of your host communities, respect their culture and traditions and always strive to live peaceably among them. Our people are loving and hospitable and I want to assure you that you will enjoy living among them.”
He assured them of adequate security and enabling environment to make utilize their potential in the state.
“I want to assure you that my administration will continue to create an enabling and conductive environment for you to operate. We shall continue with the regular payment of your State allowance to those of you serving in the State institutions and agencies”.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator, Osun, Mr Agbor Ndoma Obim had commended the corp members for their conduct in the course of the three weeks orientation, particularly the rapt attention they gave to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme SAED.
Mr Obim advised them to avoid truancy and lateness at their places of Primary Assignment (PPA), while urging them to be team players and a shining example by contributing to the success of the organization they are posted to.
The Coordinator also admonished them to serve their host communities with patriotic zeal.
“Aside the group community development service which is compulsory for all Corps Members, I urge you as an individual to identify a felt need in your community and mobilize to meet that need. By so doing, you will be leaving a legacy in that community”.
Mr Obim on behalf of the NYSC Director General thanked the Osun State Governor for donating 2000 mattresses to the camp, reroofing of the pavilion as well as the repainting of the administration block.
