The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has suspended Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, following allegations of violating the institution’s established laws and policies.

In a letter, signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, the suspension is effective from Friday August 17, 2023.

The development to suspend Prof. Cyril Ndifon came as a response to his handling of a query issued to him by the University Management according to the letter.

The letter read, “Please refer to our letter Ref UC/REG/DISC.45A dated August 14, 2023, on your alleged violation of the provisions of the extant laws and policies of the University and your response to the said letter which was dated 16th August, 2023.”

It stated that as a result of the Vice Chancellor’s dissatisfaction, Prof. Ndifon has been relieved of his role as Dean of the Faculty of Law.

This investigation will be carried out by a panel that will be set up specifically for this purpose, it reads.

The suspension’s effectivity is from August 17, 2023. Prof. Ndifon has been instructed to transfer all University property in his possession, along with his official responsibilities, to the Sub-Dean of the Faculty before vacating his office.

He is also required to stay away from the University premises, except when responding to an invitation from the panel overseeing the investigation.

Some female students of the Faculty of Law, University of Calabar, Cross River State, had protested against the emergence of the Dean of the faculty, Prof. Cyril Ndifon.

In a viral video making rounds on social media, the students were seen holding placards with different inscriptions, calling out the lecturer for allegedly harassing them.
