The Justice, Development and Peace Commission, JDPC, has advised residents in the rural areas of the state to legalize their land transactions to avoid cases of disputes and land grabbing arising from sales of Lands.

The Commission gave the advice during its sensitisationon justice advocacy to Ijawaya, in Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Speaking, a Research Fellow with the JDPC,  Mr. Ademola Kareem, who explained that land disputes usually arise from family and individual ownership, especially during the sharing of properties of the deceased head of family enjoined land owners to process legal documents of their lands.

Mr Kareem cautioned against the patronage of land merchants, saying only a lawyer could be engaged to legalize their lands.

Reacting, the Baalẹ of Ijawaya , Mr. Oloyede Musbau, who appreciated the gesture, said the JDPC intervention was timely, adding that surveyors had taken advantage of their naivety to rip them of their landed properties.

The community leader promised to sensitize the 37 villages under Ijawaya to arm them with necessary information needed to safeguarding their landed properties as well as eliminate disputes arising from sales and sharing of lands among his subjects.

Coordinator of the outreach, Mrs. Adenike Ibitara, who stated that the JDPC had taken the community enlightenment programme to other communities to sensitize them on solutions to their challenges of infringement of rights, expressed optimism that the people had been empowered to stand against any violation of rights in their communities.
