Ogun Arraigns Ijebu East LG Former Chairman

Former Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Mr Wale Adedayo has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State by the Police, following a petition by the state government. 

Mr Adedayo was arraigned on a two- count charge of unlawful publication of false accusations against Governor Dapo Abiodun and disrupting the proper execution of executive duties.

The charges were sequel to a petition by the state government titled “Petition against Wale Adedayo’s deliberate circulation of falsehood, false report to government, threat to life, and interference with the exercise of executive function,” signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tokunbo Talabi.

The charges specified that the embattled chairman knew that the allegations were false and likely to cause public disturbance and damage to the Governor’s reputation.

During the proceedings, the defendant’s counsel, Mr Kayode Akinsola’s application for bail was not objected by the prosecutor, Inspector Olaide Rolly. 

In his ruling, the Magistrate, A.K Araba, granted bail to the defendant with a sum  of 2 million naira and two sureties which the judge said must responsible and reliable, resident within the court’s jurisdiction and possessing landed property with tax clearance. 

The Magistrate also ordered that Mr Adedayo should be remanded at Ibara Correctional Facility, Abeokuta, pending the fulfillment of bail conditions and adjourned the trial to the 20th of October, 2023.

The erstwhile council Chairman had previously accused Governor Abiodun of diverting federal allocations meant for all 20 Local Governments in the state, prompting an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ,EFCC.

The former chairman, who was impeached on September 14 by a majority of councillors in the local government was later arrested by the Police in Ijebu-Ife and held at the Eleweran, Abeokuta Headquarters of the State Police Command before his appearance in court.
