The Executive Director, Centre for Religious Cooperation and Tolerance (CRCT), Wakajaye, Ibadan, Professor Sabit Ariyo Olagoke wants parents to shun divorce or separation at all costs as it always harms children
Professor Olagoke, who is the spiritual head and grand Imam, Shafaudeen-in Islam Worldwide gave the charge at a “One-Day Capacity Building for Religious Adherents on Advocacy Against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence in the Religious Space ” held at the CRCT hall of the organization.
The programme had adherents of the Islamic and Christian faiths in attendance.
He noted that adhering to the conditions for marriage would serve as a foundation for a happy home and an antidote to sexual/gender-based violence
Speaking on the girl-child, the Islamic cleric called for a change of mindset about the girl-child or women, saying women are the better half and a partner for a successful journey of life.
According to him, men should strive to be better husbands and father and to desist from marriage to minors
He emphasized the need for gender balancing in child-rearing stating that the male child must be trained to understand that women are not slaves and sex objects while men must uphold fidelity and women, chastity
Professor Olagoke, however, urged the public to stop the stigmatization of victims of rape in the spirit of social inclusion, adding “They must be able to carry out activities with a normal lifestyle like others in the society.
