Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the death of renowned African Cultural Ambassador, Olujimi Solanke as a colossal loss to the theatre community and Ogun State. 

Governor Abiodun in a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital, Commiserated with the family of the veteran poet dramatist and the people of Ipara-Remo in Remo North Local Government Area of the State, over the loss of their Patriarch.

The Governor who stressed that the late Solanke had consistently put the name of the state in the limelight, emphasized that he would be greatly missed by all and sundry.

While praying God to grant him eternal rest, urged relatives and other loved ones of the late poet to celebrate his life and ensure that the legacies he left behind are preserved even for generations yet unborn.

Chief Solanke widely known by his Fans as Baba Agba,  survived by his wife, Toyin, children and grandchildren.

It would be recalled Chief Jimi Solanke died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Ogun State on Monday Morning at the age of  82 during a brief illness. 

The popular playwright was reported to have held a meeting with some stakeholders on Sunday in Remo without showing symptoms of illness prior to his death. 

The deceased, born on July 4, 1942, in Ipara Remo was a pioneer member of the Orisun Theatre Group, founded by the renowned Wole Soyinka, in 1961. 

His contributions to the global entertainment industry spanned seven decades, leaving an indelible mark on various platforms, from the Western Nigeria Television in the 1960s to international festivals in Senegal and Algeria during the 1970s.
