Over three hundred shanties and structures placed  on setbacks and fences of  Public Schools in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital have been demolished as the state government commenced a Safer School Initiative.

The demolition took place in Schools  including St John’s Primary School,Kuto, Nawair-Den Primary School,Oke -Ijeun, Nawair-Den Secondary School,Oke-Ijeun, Baptist Primary School, Idi-Aba all in Abeokuta.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Farook Akintunde  while speaking with journalists said the exercise was to ensure safety for  students when in schools as those shanties and makeshift structures are hideout for criminals.

Alhaji Akintunde explained that the shanties sometimes serves as hideout for  criminals,stressing that the state government was determined not to have any kidnapping occurrence in its schools.

The  Senior Special Assistant also  warned all  Headteacher and Principals against allocating government setbacks near the wall of their schools , saying it contradict environmental laws.

Meanwhile, the state Taskforce had demolished all shanties and makeshift structures at Panseke Market.
