By Nashirdeen Sherifdeen

Applying Islamic moral standards in children’s upbringing is essential to grooming them as ambassadors of Islam.

An Islamic cleric, Shaykh Habeebullah Buhari gave the admonition while delivering the 4th in the series of the 5th Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Memorial Ramadan Lectures with the topic: ‘Building an Ideal Muslim Home as a Solution to Reducing Juvenile Delinquency’ at Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.

Shaykh Buhari highlighted monotheism, display of good role models, cooperation among parents, mutual respect and affection as essential tools for proper children training.

The cleric also urged parents to take a cue from Quran chapter 31, Verse 13 where Prophet Luqman was enjoining his child on the best values and religious creed.

“Parents should strive to train their children with the best of cultural values and religious knowledge for us to build a better nation”, he advised.

Shaykh Buhari commended wife of the late former governor, Dr Florence Ajimobi for supporting her husband, towards achieving a lasting and rewarding legacy.

Special Guest of Honour at the event, former Group Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Dr Kazeem Adeduntan remarked that the lecture was instructive for muslim parents to raise children who will become ambassadors of Islam.

Chairman on the occasion and Babalaje Adinni of Oyo State, Alhaji AbdurRasheed Olawoore noted that the peace which Islam symbolizes begins from home, hence the need for parents to join hands together for thoroughly bred children.

“Muslim parents, especially mothers should support their husbands, enrol their children in Islamic schools to have Qur’anic knowledge and spiritual guidance”, Olawoore urged.

In a remark, retired Professor of Adult Education at the University of Ibadan, Rasheed Aderinoye pointed out that building good homes results in a better society and national development.

Prayers were offered for eternal bliss for the soul of the former governor.
