As Nigeria Environmental Society NES, Abeokuta chapter, joins the rest of the world to celebrate the 2025 World Environment Day, it has called on residents of the state to put an end to plastic pollution for a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment.
The Chairman of the society, Alhaji Badmus Jamiu made the call in a statement in Abeokuta to mark the day.
According to him, although the usefulness of plastic cannot be overemphasised as it also serves as source of livelihood to millions, but when it got into the environment it usually would become inimical due to its untold environmental menace.
Alhaji Jamiu explained that plastic pollution also constitute health risk particularly to aquatic life which would invariably return to the society, hence the need for residents to put an end to plastic pollution by properly managing plastic waste and embrace different government initiatives such as the Blue Box Programme championed by the Ogun State government.
While wishing residents of the state a hitch-free World Environment Day celebration, Alhaji Jamiu however used the opportunity to counsel residents of the state to give their environment a maximum attention, adding that, environment needs to be treated with utmost care and respect.
The theme for this year was “Putting An End to Plastic Pollution”.
