Political office holders and leaders across all fields of endeavour should remain faithful to their responsibilities and serve the people with integrity, diligence and selflessness, in line with the mandate entrusted to them.
The call was made by the General- Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, while delivering a sermon at the Christmas Carol and Service of Nine Lessons organised by the Ogun State Government at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Citing Luke 2:20 in a sermon titled “The Best Gift Ever,” Pastor Bakare recalled how the shepherds returned to their fields after celebrating the birth of Jesus, glorifying and praising God for all they had seen and heard, noting that the true celebration of Christ must be reflected in purposeful living and responsible service to humanity.
The cleric observed that there was a darker side to Christmas which often ignored, urging Nigerians to celebrate the season solely in honour of Jesus Christ, whom he described as the best gift ever given to mankind.
Pastor Bakare also called on Nigerians to re-consecrate their lives to the service of God and uphold the true meaning of the Christmas season.
The venue was filled to capacity with people from all walks of life, including serving and retired government functionaries.
Dignitaries in attendance included former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, The head of Service,Mr Kehinde Onasanya, Ogun State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Right Reverend Emmanuel Adekunle, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Mr Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, and the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide, among others.
Prayers were offered for Ogun State and the nation at large, while the audience was entertained with renditions of gospel songs by renowned artistes, including Tope Alabi and Laolu Gbenjo, among others.
