Friends, family members, colleagues and fans have gathered in Abeokuta to mark the 20th anniversary of the passing of a veteran broadcaster, the late Toba Opaleye.
The remembrance event, organised by one of his mentees, Kazeem Adejojo, also known as Kasnaty, in collaboration with family members, was held at Continental Suite, IBB Boulevard, Okelewo, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the event, one of his protégés and a seasoned broadcaster, Mr Yemi Sonde, described the late Opaleye as a dedicated mentor who nurtured many professionals in the broadcasting industry and pledged to sustain his legacy.
Mr Sonde also urged broadcasters in Nigeria to uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession, rather than pursuing fame and financial gain.
In separate remarks, colleagues and friends of the late broadcaster, including Mr Eddy Aina, Mr Ambrose Somide, Mr Busayo Olaifa, Mr Sulaimon Adegbenro, Mr Gbenga Oladunni, Alhaji Jimoh Lateef and MC Murphy, described him as a talented, disciplined and committed professional who was always willing to support others, particularly younger colleagues.
Delivering a sermon, Sheikh Abdullateef Ademoye, also known as Yasatar, advised people to live purposeful lives and emulate the late Opaleye by positively impacting others.
Earlier, the wife of the late broadcaster, Mrs Oyeyinka Opaleye, and one of his sons, Mr Sesi Opaleye, described him as a loving and responsible father who balanced his professional duties with family life despite a demanding schedule.
They expressed gratitude to Almighty God for sustaining the family since his passing and appreciated the organisers of the event, as well as colleagues and friends who have shown support over the past two decades.
