Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and arrested a suspected kingpin, Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi, alongside another gang member, Mohammed Bello, during an intelligence-led operation in the state.
Police recovered one AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition, one single-barrel gun, ₦1.5 million suspected to be ransom proceeds, several mobile phones and a black bag.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a statement, said the operation followed investigations into the abduction of three persons at Ipojo Area, Iperin, Atan-Ijebu on May 11, 2026.
Mr Babaseyi said the victims regained freedom unharmed on May 14 after unspecified ransom was paid to the abductors, prompting operatives to intensify efforts to track down members of the gang.
According to the Police spokesperson, operatives acting on credible intelligence stormed the suspects’ hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis on Friday, where the suspects allegedly opened fire on the team.
Mr Babaseyi added that further operations led to the arrest of the suspected kingpin and another gang member, while additional incriminating items linked to the criminal operation were recovered.
He added that the corpses of the neutralised suspects have been deposited at a morgue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, had commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience, reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
