A two and half year old girl has tested positive for Coronavirus at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
A statement by the Head, Public Relations and Information of the hospital, Mr. Segun Orisajo explained that the girl was admitted into the facility over a week ago for difficulty in breathing.
According to him, investigations carried out on the patient due to the persisted high temperature, made the doctors to isolate her.
Mr. Orisajo said no member of staff or other patients were unduly exposed to the patient before the result came out positive.
The head of the Public Relations department said the suspicion of care givers on the third day led to the testing for corona virus while her treatment was on going.
Mr. Orisajo stated that the girl is currently receiving treatment at the center’s isolation ward while the facility where she was initially admitted had been disinfected.
In the meantime, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Professor Adewale Musa-Olomu has given assurance that the hospital management had initiated contact tracing of other family members of the COVID-19 patient.
