The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police has confirmed the lynching of a Nigeria Air force personnel by angry mob protesting the killing of two siblings alleged to be involved in smuggling of foreign rice.
The command spokesperson, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi while speaking on the incident said the slained Air Force man was in uniform when he ran into the angry mob that lynched him.
Mr. Oyeyemi also assured that investigation was ongoing as directed by the state Commissioner of Police to unravel those behind the crisis.
The two siblings were reportedly shot by some soldiers during an argument on smuggled rice in Owode.
It was gathered that the officers had accosted the older of the two brothers in an attempt to seize his vehicle which contained bags of foreign parboiled rice.
It was alleged that the soldiers immediately fled the scene after the shooting which led to angry youths taking over the streets in protest.
According to witness, the mob set bonfires on the Sango-Idiroko international road, disrupting vehicular movements for hours.
