Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali Leaves Chippa United

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali has parted ways with South African club Chippa United after four years, the club confirmed on Thursday.

In a statement, Chippa United said Nwabali requested to leave the club despite signing a three-year contract extension in 2024, adding that it had agreed to grant his release.

It partly reads: “Chippa United Football Club confirms that Stanley Nwabali has formally submitted a request to depart club. After careful consideration, the club has agreed to grant his release.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment, and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the club said.

Reacting to his exit, Nwabali took to Instagram on Thursday, sharing a video alongside an emotional farewell message in which he thanked his teammates, coaches, fans and the club’s leadership.

He wrote: “It was more than a family❤️. To my lovely teammates, dear coaches, amazing fans and best chairman in the world. As I stand here to say farewell, but more than a goodbye, I want to say thank you. The memories we’ve shared, the hard fought victories, the setbacks we turned into lessons, the laughs and the tears are moments I will carry with me forever.”

“I leave with a heart full of gratitude and a lifetime of cherished memories. This isn’t just a farewell, it’s an appreciation for every moment you’ve given me. The lessons I’ve learned here will stay with me forever, and even though I may not wear the shirt anymore, a part of me will always remain with this club.

“To the club chairman, thank you for being such a father figure to me ❤️. Thank you for the honor of letting me be part of this story. I wish you all success and happiness in the seasons ahead.

The 29-year-old joined Chippa United from Katsina United in the NPFL in 2022 and made about 70 appearances for the club.

Nollywood Actress Aunty Ajara Dies after Illness

Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara, is dead.

Her death was announced on Thursday by Nollywood director, Tobi Oladele Teemony, also known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on Instagram.

“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” the statement read.

Teemony said the late actress received “immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world” during her illness.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion,” he added.

He also urged members of the public to stop sending donations to the account previously shared for her treatment, stating that financial contributions were “no longer required”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss,” the statement added.

The statement by Teemony was accompanied by a video by her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi.

He said, “Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on.

“All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.

“We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”

The announcement came about a week after Teemony and other nollywood figures like Ronke Oshodi Oke appealed for urgent financial assistance for the actress, saying her condition had worsened despite ongoing treatment and support from colleagues and well-wishers.

“Please, we need help. Ajara’s health condition has become more critical despite all the efforts so far. So much has already been spent on her treatment, with generous support from kind-hearted celebrities, actors, and individuals — yet the situation is getting worse.

“At this point, we urgently need more financial assistance to keep her fighting. Any amount, any support, any share can make a difference. Please help us save a life. Thank you and God bless,” he wrote at the time.

Earlier reports indicated that the small-screen actress was pregnant and battling a liver-related illness, with colleagues saying she had been placed on oxygen in hospital as her condition deteriorated.

Several Nollywood stars, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had rallied support and appealed for financial assistance for her treatment amid growing public concern over her health.

NAPTIP Arrests Suspected Trafficker

Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, in Ogun State have arrested a 26-year-old woman, Omotola Sarah, for allegedly trafficking a 13-year-old girl to Burkina Faso for sexual exploitation.

The State Commander of NAPTIP, Mrs Bosede Jimoh, disclosed this during a sensitisation and inauguration of a Vanguard Club at Kobape Community High School in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the State. 

Mrs Jimoh explained that the suspect, a divorcee and mother of six, was currently under investigation, while efforts were ongoing to dismantle the trafficking network linked to the case, including collaborators outside the country, adding that with the intervention of NAPTIP Ogun Command, the victim was successfully rescued and repatriated to Nigeria.

Describing the arrest as a major breakthrough in the fight against human trafficking in the state, Mrs Jimoh explained that the victim was trafficked from a salon in Abeokuta where her mother had enrolled her for vocational training in hairdressing due to academic challenges. 

She warned parents and students to be vigilant, noting that traffickers often exploited vulnerable situations to lure unsuspecting victims.

The NAPTIP Commander expressed optimism that the Vanguard Club initiative would empower students with the needed knowledge to avoid trafficking and raise awareness on its dangers.

Addressing the students, the school Principal, Mrs Adeyinka Akinyele and a Desk Officer from the Ministry of Education, Mrs Modupeola Afolabi, advocated more commitment to the anti-trafficking campaign, urging the learners to speak up and report suspicious activities.

Delivering a lecture, the State Project Officer of the School Anti-Trafficking Education and Advocacy Project, STEAP, Mr Samuel Okoroji, emphasized the importance of awareness and capacity building for students, teachers and other stakeholders to enable early identification and response to trafficking cases.

The event was put together in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, ICMPD, with support from the Government of the Netherlands, as part of efforts to curb the rising incidence of human trafficking among school-age children.

Police Nab Murder Suspect, Stop Cult Violence

The Nigeria police force, Oyo Command has recorded multiple breakthroughs in its sustained fight against crime across the state.

A statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Olayinka Ayanlade, said operatives arrested a murder suspect, Yaru Saka, in Tede, Atisbo Local Government Area, over the killing of Amodu Saliu.

The statement indicates that a locally made gun was recovered, and the suspect has confessed to the crime.

Also in Jobele, the command has quelled a cult-related clash, rescuing a 35-year-old man with stab injuries.

 The PPRO said two suspects had been arrested, while a blood-stained knife was recovered. The suspects are assisting investigations to arrest other fleeing cult members.

In a related development, a 23-year-old suspect has been arrested at ilora over a violent attack on a night guard whose left hand was reportedly severed with a cutlass.

 The suspect was found with a blood-stained cutlass and has confessed to the crime.

In another development, the command has dismantled a three suspected burglary syndicate inside a commercial bus loaded with stolen household and electronic items in Ibadan.

The PPRO has affirmed that previous burglary cases have been traced to them.

The statement  says all the  suspects will be charged to court .

Ogun at 50: Abiodun Appreciates Residents, Federal Government

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed gratitude to the people of the state and the Federal Government for their support as Ogun marked the 50th anniversary of its creation.

Governor Abiodun made the remark  at the state banquet held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee celebration.

He said he was humbled by the grace of God to serve as Chief Steward of the state at such a historic moment, noting that the achievements recorded so far were the result of collective effort and shared sacrifice.

The governor thanked residents of the state, past leaders, stakeholders and partners for their contributions to the growth and development of Ogun State, stressing that progress would not have been possible without their support.

Governor Abiodun also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his confidence, trust and continued support, describing the President as a dependable ally whose faith in the state has strengthened its development drive.

Reflecting on the celebration, former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, attributed the successes recorded by the state to the commitment and dedication of both past and present leaders.

Professor Osinbajo congratulated the people of Ogun State, noting that Governor Abiodun has rewritten the state’s history through strides in industrialization, infrastructure, airport development, agro-processing and improved economic performance.

The banquet was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including government officials, traditional rulers, captains of industry and other stakeholders.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian Air Force personnel.

He spoke while inaugurating new accommodation and recreational facilities at the NAF Camp in Legico Barracks, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The projects include two blocks of 24 two-bedroom flats, one block of 40 one-bedroom flats, and a purpose-built sports complex for airmen and airwomen.

Air Marshal Aneke said the developments reflect his sustained focus on personnel welfare, which remains a central pillar of his command philosophy.

He explained that a motivated, professional, and mission-ready force is essential for delivering decisive air power in support of national security objectives.

The Chief of Air Staff noted that adequate housing reduces welfare-related pressure, promotes family stability, and allows personnel to focus fully on operational duties.

He stressed that ensuring the comfort of officers’ families would help personnel give their best service to the Nigerian Air Force.

Air Marshal Aneke commended his predecessor for initiating and completing the housing project on time.

He urged officers, airmen, and airwomen to remain worthy ambassadors of the service, maintain good relations with host communities and sister security agencies, and properly maintain the facilities.

According to him, their conduct must always reflect discipline, professionalism, and loyalty to the nation.

Earlier, the Commander, 055 NAF Camp Lagos, Group Captain Ayomide Omokunga, said the Chief of Air Staff continues to prioritise welfare to boost morale, cohesion, and operational effectiveness.

Ron Kenoly Dies At 81

Celebrated American Christian worship leader, singer, and songwriter, Ron Kenoly, has passed away at the age of 81.

The news was confirmed by Bruno Miranda, Kenoly’s longtime music director, in a statement shared on the singer’s official Instagram page.

The statement revealed that Kenoly died on February 3, 2026, though the cause of death was not disclosed.

Miranda, who worked closely with Kenoly for more than 20 years, described him as not only a mentor but also a spiritual father, emphasizing Kenoly’s dedication to his calling.

“This morning, Feb. 3, 2026, we said goodbye to Dr. Ron Kenoly,” the statement read.

“For over 20 years, I had the honor of walking alongside him in ministry around the world—not just as his music director, but as a son, a student, and a witness to a life marked by faithfulness. Doc was very intentional about one thing: he was never an artist, never an entertainer. He was a worship leader. And he took all the time necessary to explain what that truly meant.”

Miranda elaborated on Kenoly’s philosophy of worship, highlighting that he viewed his role as guiding people into sincere reverence for God.

“A worship leader’s calling is not to perform songs, but to lead people into true worship in the presence of a King; the King of Kings, Jesus Christ. He taught me that a worship leader is not merely a song leader, but a servant who connects with people whose hearts are open to worship, guiding them to ‘enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise’ (Psalm 100:4, ESV). Worship, he would say, is always rooted in gratitude for what Christ has done for us, and never in anticipation of what we want Him to do.

“Off the stage, Doc carried the same integrity, humility, and reverence for God that the world saw under the lights. He taught me that worship begins long before the first note is played, shaped by obedience, character, and a deep fear of the Lord.

“Today we grieve deeply but not without hope. The worship he lived is now the worship he beholds.

“Until we meet again, my pastor, my mentor, my friend.”

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly moved to Hollywood, California, after high school and later served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1968.

During his military service, he performed with a cover band, the Mellow Fellows, which toured various military bases.

After his service, Kenoly returned to Los Angeles to pursue a full-time music ministry, eventually becoming one of the most influential figures in contemporary Christian worship music.

His breakthrough came in 1992 with the release of “Lift Him Up”, which became the fastest-selling worship album of its time.

Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Akintola, Awolowo Legacies

President Bola Tinubu says his administration remains committed to building on the legacies of Nigeria’s founding leaders, including Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, to achieve sustainable and inclusive national prosperity despite current economic challenges.

The president stated this at the 2026 Samuel Ladoke Akintola Memorial Lecture held at the University of Ibadan to mark the 60th anniversary of the assassination of the former Premier of the defunct Western Region, Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola.

Represented by the Minister of Power, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu, President Tinubu described the late nationalist as a bridge-builder, patriot and visionary leader whose ideals remain relevant to Nigeria’s unity and development.

The President said Chief Akintola’s commitment to cooperation across ethnic and political divides, his belief in fairness and his passion for education offer enduring lessons for contemporary Nigeria.

Also speaking at the event, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, said Chief Akintola served as Minister of Aviation, where he laid the foundation for Nigeria Airways, and as Minister of Health, where he contributed significantly to the establishment of the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan.

Senator Akume said Chief Akintola deliberately designed his regional development policies to promote unity and inclusiveness, adding that his strong belief in education and infrastructure development reflected in his contributions to institutions such as the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, and the Cocoa House.

The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, described Chief Akintola as a courageous and influential leader whose contributions to Nigeria’s development remain significant despite his complex historical profile.

Governor Makinde said Chief Akintola’s life reminds Nigerians that leaders, though human and imperfect, can take bold actions that shape history.

In her welcome address, the daughter of the late statesman, Dr Bimbo Akintola, said her father’s favourite Bible passage was “The Lord is my Shepherd,” adding that God indeed shepherded his life to the very end.

Dignitaries at the lecture included representatives of the Lagos State Government, traditional rulers, legal luminaries and captains of industry.

The widow of the former Chief of General Staff (CGS), late Vice Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, late Dame Rebecca Ehovbayi Aikhomu (nee Madojemu), has been eulogized by relations, friends and in-laws as a woman that lived an exemplary life of service to humanity and in the service of God.

The tributes were paid to her during a Commendation Holy Communion Service held in her honour at the Cathedral Church of the Pentecost, Festac Town, Lagos

Describing her as a woman that understood that leadership is not only a privilege, but a responsibility, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that the late Dame Aikhomu lived a life that bears testimony to patience, humility, selfless service, and generosity, that is deeply needed in the society.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu said Dame Aikhomu’s life was full of remarkable journey “marked by faith, dignity, and enduring service.”

He explained that her generosity, influence and care were not limited to her family but exuded unfathomable influences that resonated in the church and in her community.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that beyond her family, her influence has been felt in the church, in the community life, and in the legacies she has set for younger generations, especially women, who look to her story as proof that character, consistency, and faith are the virtues and evidence of a godly life.

In a sermon entitled “Salvation: How do I know that I am Safe” by the Rt. Reverend Ebenezer Ajayi Adewole of Cathedral Church of the Pentecost, Festac Town, Lagos, Diocese of Lagos Southwest, (Anglican Communion), noted that human beings have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.

The cleric therefore called on everyone, including the children of the deceased, to recognize that the best of human intentions cannot satisfy God, and urged them to live a life of service to God and humanity.

The Right Reverend Adewole pointed out that the only weapon humans have for salvation is to ‘confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour,’ stressing that doing so brings a clean break from the past.

He eulogized the late Princess Aikhomu, noting that she lived a life worthy of emulation.

On his part, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, represented by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Shehu, an Admiral Superintendent of the Navy, Naval Dockyard Limited, Victoria Island, Lagos, stated that the Nigerian Navy would greatly miss Dame Aikhomu for her wise counsel, deep knowledge of Navy history, and the warm guidance she provided to past and present Presidents of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association.

Speaking about her mother’s legacy, the deceased’s eldest daughter, Susan described her as a caring mother and a woman of estimable value.

She added that she would deeply miss her mother’s care, the discipline she instilled in the children, and her enduring love and passion for the family.

The commendation service had the creme de la creme of the society including both serving and retired service Chiefs, Commander, NNS Beecroft, Rear Admiral Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Afolayan, captains of industry and business moguls.

Aged 85, she is survived by children, great grand children and in-laws.

Nigerian Music Star Ifunanya Dies after Snake Bite

An Abuja-based music talent, Ifunanya Nwangene, has died after being bitten by a snake.

Nwangene, a soprano singer with the Amemuso Choir, passed away on Saturday at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.

The Amemuso Choir confirmed her death in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon and signed by its Music Director, Sam Ezugwu.

“We regret to announce the sudden demise of our beloved soprano, Ifunanya Nwangene, who passed away yesterday, 31st January 2026, at the Federal Medical Centre due to a snake bite,” the statement partly read.

The choir described her death as a major loss to Abuja’s growing music scene, noting that she was on the verge of sharing her talent with a wider audience.

“A rising star, Ifunanya was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world.“Her voice and spirit will be deeply missed,” the statement added, while promising to announce burial arrangements later.

Osun Assembly Warns Against Illegal Diversion of LG Funds

Osun State House of Assembly says it will not tolerate the diversion of public funds meant to cater for the salaries, healthcare delivery, education, and community development of the State.

The Speaker of the House, Prince Adewale Egbedun stated this while addressing newsmen at the Assembly Complex, Osogbo.

He was reacting to the continuous unlawful stay of some politicians in the local government secretariats and alleged illegal disbursement of Local Government Funds for personal uses.

Prince Egbedun emphasized that the House would not fold its arms and watch, while actions that could undermine the rule of law, democratic governance, and the welfare of the people at the grassroots continue unabated.

The Speaker on behalf of other lawmakers expressed dismay that individuals whose elections were nullified by courts of competent jurisdiction, and whose self-awarded tenure has since expired on 22nd October, 2025, still, unlawfully occupy local government secretariats and interfere with public funds.

“The House notes with grave concern that individuals whose elections were nullified by courts of competent jurisdiction, and whose self-awarded tenure has since expired by effluxion of time on 22nd October, 2025, continue to unlawfully occupy Local Government secretariats and interfere with Local Government finances.”

Prince Egbedun who noted that such individuals have no legal mandate and are not recognised by the law, by the courts, or by the constitution, stressed that their continued presence in the helms of affairs of local councils is illegal and must be checked.

He said based on credible information, huge sums of Local Government Funds have been reportedly paid to the sacked local government chairmen.

“The Osun State House of Assembly formally places on record that it has written repeatedly to banks, including the United Bank for Africa Plc, UBA, clearly educating them on the law. Under extant Osun State laws and regulations governing Local Government administration, only career officers duly appointed under the Local Government Service Commission, including Directors of Finance and Directors of Administration and General Services, are lawful signatories to Local Government accounts.”

He added that any bank that releases Local Government Funds on the instructions of unauthorised persons, acts unlawfully and exposes itself and its officers to criminal liability.

Security Agencies Pledge Collaboration with CDHR on Human Rights Protection

Members of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, have been advised to remain firm and resolute in their efforts to ensure the promotion of human rights, the rule of law, and a just and equitable society.

Chairman, Board of Trustees of CDHR, Mr Femi Falana, who was represented by a member of the Board, Mr Malachy Ugwummadu, gave the advice during the Annual General Conference of the CDHR held at the Nigeria Labour Congress Secretariat, Leme, Abeokuta.

Mr.Falana noted that widespread corruption in the country has continued to undermine the rule of law, even under a democratic dispensation.

He stressed the need for members of the CDHR to remain vigilant and consistently monitor government activities to ensure compliance with the provisions of the law.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Dr Lanre Ogunlowo, represented by a Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr Goddy Iteyere, and the Commander of the Ogun State Security Network Agency, So-Safe Corps, Mr Soji Ganzallo, represented by his assistant, Mr Adegbuyi Adegunwa, stated that security agencies were not opposed to lawful protests by registered groups, provided there would be no breakdown of law and order.

They assured participants of their commitment to collaborate with the CDHR in the promotion and protection of human rights through prompt action on petitions, arrests, investigation of alleged abuses, prosecution of offenders, and the enforcement of accountability.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, Ogun State, Mr Popoola Samson, Chairman of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Akeem Lasisi, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, represented by Mr Chris Omoni, commended CDHR for its sustained fight against human rights violations.

They assured the organisation of continued support from the labour unions in the pursuit of justice and equity for Nigerians.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Comrade Yinka Folarin, while welcoming delegates from across the country, reiterated the commitment of CDHR to monitoring human rights abuses, providing legal support to victims, and creating public awareness through education on citizens’ rights and the importance of the rule of law.

Ogun Customs Officers Under Another Attack Within One Week

The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, has recorded a second violent attack on its officers within one week during an ongoing anti-smuggling operation in Ogun State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Zakari Chado said the latest incident occurred along a bush path at Alapoti in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, where Customs officers on routine patrol intercepted motorcycles conveying smuggled foreign parboiled rice.

Mr Chado explained that forty-six bags of 50-kilogramme of foreign parboiled rice were seized and loaded into a patrol vehicle, after which the officers were ambushed by a large mob armed with dane guns, stones, bottles and charms while withdrawing from the area in an attempt to recover the seized items.

The command’s spokesperson stated that the officers successfully repelled the attack after about thirty minutes of confrontation, during which one of the assailants sustained injuries and later died, while a suspect who claimed ownership of the seized rice was arrested and currently under investigation.

The command noted that the repeated attacks on its personnel were linked to intensified anti-smuggling operations, which have resulted in major seizures of prohibited items including arms, ammunition and narcotics across the area.

Reacting to the incident, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Mr Olukayode Afeni, condemned the attack and assured that the service would not be deterred, warning that all those involved would be identified and prosecuted.

The Oyo Police Command has arrested seven suspected bandits in connection with the deadly attack on Old Oyo National Park in Oloka area of Orire Local Government Area.

The attack, which occurred on January 6, 2026, claimed the lives of five persons, including forest rangers and operatives of the National Park.

A statement by the command public relations officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade indicates that the suspects arrested included the alleged ringleader of the attack.

According to the command, the attackers, heavily armed with sophisticated firearms, stormed the National Park office at about 9:00 p.m. on motorcycles, overwhelmed personnel on duty, and forcefully freed detained gang members earlier arrested for various criminal activities within the park and surrounding communities.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, immediately deployed operational assets to the area and directed the Command Monitoring Unit to take over the investigation.

The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of three initial suspects identified as Mohammed Dangi (52), Abubakar Abdullahi, and Sheu Usman.

Police said interrogation of the suspects revealed that a 10-man gang operating on five motorcycles carried out the attack.

Further investigations, based on actionable intelligence, resulted in the arrest of four additional suspects on January 25, 2026.

They include Toro Malami (43), Usman Alhaji Ummaru, Laolo Muhammadu (22), and Usman Alhaji Isah (32).


The command said the arrested suspects have continued to provide credible intelligence, aiding ongoing efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang and recover weapons used in the attack.

NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Embrace Self-Reliance

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has urged corps members to make positive use of skills acquired during orientation camp.

He said the skills would help them remain self-employed after their service year.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Nafiu, gave the charge during an official visit to the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Iseyin, Oyo State.

He stressed the importance of vocational and entrepreneurial training.

Brigadier General Nafiu noted that those basic skills can serve as reliable sources of income within and outside Nigeria.

He added that such skills would reduce the struggle of seeking white-collar jobs after service.

Earlier, the Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Peters, said corps members had actively participated in camp activities.

Mr Peters also listed some needs of the camp, including the purchase of bunk beds.

Highlights of the visit included the celebration of corps members on their birthdays, cultural displays by different ethnic groups, and a meeting with camp officials.

Tinubu Urges Youths to Dream Big at Dream Centre Launch

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, commissioned the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, urging youths to dream big, work patiently, and tap into their God-given potential.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, built the centre, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) equipped it.

Senator Tinubu stressed inclusivity: “The Dream Centre serves not just girls but boys too. We brought books and materials—some free, others for the library.”

She shared how positive role models shaped her life, calling the centre a symbol of her journey.

The First Lady encouraged OAU students to use its resources fully, cautioning against overambition while affirming that “God has deposited everything you need to achieve your dreams inside you.”

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, praised Senator Tinubu as a pillar for President Bola Tinubu.

“Your Excellency, this Dream Centre is your living legacy,” he said, thanking her and urging OAU to partner with well-meaning individuals to attract investors.

NITDA Director General Mr. Kasifu Abdullahi and OAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Bamire highlighted President Tinubu’s education policies as Nigeria’s cornerstone for renewal and prosperity.

They described the event as a showcase of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and storytelling to preserve the nation’s history for future generations.Our correspondent reports that Senator Tinubu also commissioned 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and 10 tricycles donated to OAU, easing transport for staff and students.

Osun Police Apprehend Teenager over Alledged Public Disturbance

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the death of a youth in the Idoka community of Ibokun Town, following an incident linked to alleged drug abuse and a violent confrontation.

In a statement by Commissioner of Police Mr. Ibrahim Gotan and issued by Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Abiodun Ojelaji, the suspect is identified as Isaac Lucky and he was taken into custody after residents reported repeated disturbances and criminal activities attributed to him within Idoka and neighbouring areas of the state.

According to Mr. Gotan, complaints from community members indicated that the teenager was frequently involved in unlawful acts allegedly influenced by the regular use of illicit substances, including kolos, loud, and tramadol.

He explained that the fatal incident occurred on December 19, 2025, after the suspect was accused of committing another offence in the community, prompting local youths—including the deceased—to pursue him.

The commissioner stated: “Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was charged to court and subsequently remanded at a correctional centre.”

He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining public safety across the state and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.

Ogun Assembly Moves to Digitalise Legislative Operations

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA,Mr. Oludaisi Elemide, has announced plans to digitalise legislative operations in the state, aiming to boost accountability, enhance credibility, and make Assembly activities more accessible to the public.

Mr. Elemide announced this during a media parley at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, marking his second anniversary as Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

He said the 10th Legislature had passed more than 12 bills over the past two years, including the Scavengers and Waste Dealers Law, Principals General Establishment Law, and Obas and Chiefs Law.

Noting that eight other bills remain at various stages of legislative consideration.

The Speaker added that the Assembly had passed over 60 resolutions to address constituents’ issues across the state.

He highlighted the enactment of the Land Grabbing Law to curb land grabbing and related offences.

Mr. Elemide noted that the Assembly considers both executive and private members’ bills.

However, he acknowledged ongoing challenges, including duplication of proposed laws, diverse stakeholders’ interests, and funding constraints due to the lack of full financial autonomy.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Deputy Governor, members of the State Executive Council, his Assembly colleagues, as well as the management and staff, for their support and collaboration.

The Speaker also pointed to key infrastructural upgrades at the Assembly Complex, including the redesign of the Chamber and Complex into an ultra-modern facility, refurbishment of members’ and staff offices, installation of a borehole, and recruitment of additional staff.

Mr. Elemide attributed the approval of 150 million naira in constituency project funds—enabling lawmakers to execute projects in their areas—to the cordial relationship between the Legislature and Executive, in line with the state government’s push to deliver democratic dividends.

On the issue of welfare, media relations, and oversight, he reported notable improvements while reaffirming the Assembly’s commitment to quarterly oversight visits.

He stressed that optimal performance requires full legislative autonomy.

Court Nullifies PDP National Convention, Bars Turaki-Led NWC

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention held in the city between November 15 and 16, 2025.

The court also ruled that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remains the only recognised National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP, pending the conduct of a valid national convention.

Recall that the Kabiru Turaki faction of the PDP had filed a suit seeking recognition of the convention held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, and validation of the NWC that emerged from the convention.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Uche Agomoh, the court also barred Turaki and other officials purportedly elected at the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The court held that the convention was conducted in flagrant disobedience to subsisting court judgments, adding that seeking judicial approval for actions taken in defiance of court orders is an exercise in futility.

The judge further declared that the PDP can only operate through the caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention is conducted.

The judgment follows a protracted crisis within the PDP, which held a controversial national elective convention in Ibadan in November 2025 despite existing court orders.

Earlier, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had ordered the suspension of the PDP convention in a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido.

Governor Lamido had challenged the process, alleging he was denied the opportunity to purchase a nomination form to contest for the party’s chairmanship, contrary to the PDP constitution and guidelines.

Meanwhile, the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party says it has briefed its legal counsel to immediately file an appeal and take all necessary legal steps to defend the party’s position on the matter.

This is contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ini Ememobong.

The statement maintains that the Kabiru Turaki-led PDP, which emerged from the Ibadan Convention, remains legally intact and unshaken as the party awaits the final pronouncement of the appellate courts.

The party also urges its members to remain resolute and committed, stressing that there is no cause for alarm, while noting that the party’s “Rebirth Movement” remains firmly on course.

Super Eagles Winger Chukwueze Loses Mother

Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze has lost his mother, Mrs Sarah Chukwueze.

Although Samuel himself did not initially confirm the development, his brother, David Chukwueze, shared the news in a series of emotional posts on Instagram, paying tribute to their late mother.

According to the posts, the family is struggling to come to terms with the loss.

In one post, David wrote, “Can’t even post your picture to say RIP mum.”

In another, he said, “My forever love just left me without saying goodbye.”

He also noted, “You didn’t even carry your grandchild.”

The National Sports Commission later confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, saying Mrs Chukwueze died after a brief illness.

“The National Sports Commission is deeply saddened by the confirmed passing of Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, mother of Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze,” the statement read.

It noted that the death had been publicly announced by members of the Chukwueze family.

“The Commission has been informed that Mrs Chukwueze passed away following a brief illness, a loss that has been publicly shared by members of the Chukwueze family,” it added.

The NSC extended its condolences to the footballer and his family, describing the late Mrs Chukwueze as a strong support figure in her son’s career.

“Across the landscape of Nigerian sport, the role of family remains central to the character and resilience shown by many of our elite athletes. Mrs Chukwueze’s influence on the personal journey of her son and her support for his professional pursuit are acknowledged and respected by the sports community,” the Commission stated.

It added that it stood in solidarity with the Super Eagles winger during the period of mourning.

“The National Sports Commission stands in solidarity with Samuel Chukwueze and offers support to him and his family at this difficult time,” the statement said.

Details surrounding her illness were not disclosed.

Chukwueze, who featured for the Super Eagles at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Nigeria finished third, has yet to issue a public statement on the loss.

The development comes just two days after Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi lost his father, Sunday Ndidi, in a road accident in Delta State.

FRCN IB ZD Promises Open-door Policy

The leadership of the in-house unions, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, has charged the newly appointed Zonal Director, Mr Olufemi Fulani, to hit the ground running and reposition the station for greater heights.

The charge was given during a congratulatory visit to the new Zonal Director by leaders of the in-house unions, led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, FRCN Ibadan Chapel, Mr Oluwakayode Banjo, the Chairman of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria, RATTAWU, FRCN Ibadan Chapel, Mr Tunde Imam, and the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies, SSASCGOC, Mr Sunday Olowookere.

Speaking on behalf of the union leaders, Mr Banjo urged the Zonal Director to restore the flagship status of FRCN in the zone.

He appealed to Mr Fulani to always regard the in-house unions as partners in progress and to engage them whenever ideas or challenges arise that require collective resolution.

Mr Banjo further assured that the in-house union leadership would give massive support to the innovations and developmental policies of the Zonal Director and his management team, aimed at propelling the station to an enviable position.

In his remarks, the new Zonal Director, Mr Fulani, expressed appreciation to the union leaders for the visit and honour.

Mr Fulani noted that being a unionist, both at the FRCN Headquarters Chapel and the State Council level, emphasised the importance of a cordial relationship between unions and management.

Mr Fulani said he would maintain an open-door policy capable of advancing the growth of FRCN, Ibadan.

The Zonal Director appealed for the cooperation and support of all stakeholders in achieving his vision and mission for the station.

Osun LG Commission Redeploys HLAs

The Osun State Local Government Service Commission has redeployed some senior local council administrators in the state.

In a letter signed by the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Mudashir Oyedeji, five Heads of Local Government Administration, HLAs, were directed to resume duties at their new postings with immediate effect.

According to the letter, the redeployment affected officials serving in various Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs.

Among the postings was the transfer of Mr. Yakubu Oni from Irewole North East LCDA to Boripe Local Government Area.

Other officers listed in the letter included Bolaji Ayoola, Emmanuel Ademokoya, Adebisi  Kayode and Isaac  Akinwumi, all of whom were moved from their duty posts to new Local Government Areas.

New FRCN Zonal Director Assumes Office

Following the retirement of the immediate past Zonal Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, the official hand – over of the management of the corporation has taken place at the Conference Room, Broadcasting House, Dugbe, Ibadan.

The official handing over of leadership from the immediate past Zonal Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, to the new Zonal Director, Mr. Olufemi Fulani. 

The ceremony, which was attended by members of the Committee of Management of the corporation in the station, depicted the saying that: “transitions are bridges, connecting the wisdom of the past with the promise of the future, and that “true leadership lies not in holding on but in passing the baton with grace,” 

Addressing members of management, Mr. Mokikan said the handing over was in line with the established due process of the corporation.

He noted that although the Ibadan Zonal Station was yet to attain its desired operational capacity, it would achieve the expected standard in due course.

Mr. Mokikan appealed to members of staff to accord the new Zonal Director the same cooperation and support he enjoyed during his tenure.

In his response, the new Zonal Director, Mr. Olufemi Fulani, who reflected on his early professional experience at the Ibadan Zonal Station, alongside postings in Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, described Ibadan as a solid foundation for a young journalist.

Mr. Fulani appealed to members of the management team to support him in moving the corporation to greater heights.

The ceremony featured a solidarity birthday song in honour of the immediate past Zonal Director.

Thereafter, the management team, led by the new Zonal Director, proceeded to a closed-door meeting, where Mr. Fulani urged staff to upscale their performance efficiency for the smooth running of the corporation.

Makinde Reaffirms Vision As Oyo Turns 50

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged his administration’s commitment to securing a better future built on strong institutions, sustainable growth, empowered young people, inclusive development and lasting stability.

He stated this at the commencement of Oyo at 50 celebrations held at the International Conference Centre, ICC, University of Ibadan. 

Addressing the gathering, Governor Makinde said the state is marking 50 years of Identity, resilience, sacrifice and progress collectively as citizens whose lives have been shaped by the state in different areas.  

While describing the golden jubilee as a moment of reflection, responsibility and renewal, the governor said Oyo State has moved from promises to performance, potentials to measurable progress, while building strong institutions towards securing the next fifty years.

He said: “As we mark this golden jubilee, we commit ourselves to a future built on strong institutions, sustainable growth, empowered young people, inclusive development and lasting stability”. 

“Permit me to speak on behalf of the people of Oyo State as we make a collective commitment to that future. We commit to building a stronger and more competitive economy that creates jobs, attracts investment and expands opportunity. We commit to infrastructure that drives development, education that prepares our children for the future and institutions that endure beyond any administration. We commit to peace, security, good governance, fiscal responsibility and a state that remains safe, stable and open for business. And above all, we commit to ensuring that the next 50 years would deliver greater prosperity, fairness, dignity and hope for every citizen of Oyo State.”

The governor also used the opportunity to appreciate everyone who has made sacrifices towards the safety, security and prosperity of the state over the years.

In a goodwill message, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, reflected on the state’s journey, saying sacrifices were made by past leaders which paved the way for the current progress in the state. 

Oba Ladoja, also a former governor of the state, reminded those coming behind that the journey of a thousand miles starts with a step and urged the state’s stakeholders to always put the interest of Oyo first in their dealings.

Also, the Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin and the wife of a former Head of Service in the state, Theophillus Akinyele, Chief Elizabeth Akinyele, appreciated both past and present administrations in Oyo state for their significant contributions. 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Oyo at 50 Committee, Saheed Fijabi, said the state has journeyed through people, leadership, and progress over the years, remaining a cornerstone of national growth. 

Mr Fijabi urged the people and the residents of the state to share the responsibility of building a state where prosperity would continue to thrive. 

He lauded Governor Makinde’s leadership, which he described as a model of people -centred governance through infrastructure, revitalised education, improved access to healthcare facilities, enhancement of security architecture, economic reforms and improved internally generated revenue as well as a repositioned agriculture and agribusiness.

The climax of the Oyo at 50 holds on the 3rd of next month with Gala and Award night to honour heroes from and outside the state for their contributions to the state’s and nation’s development.

The event had in attendance a former first lady of Oyo State, Chief ( Mrs) Mutiat Ladoja; Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal and his wife, Chief Mrs Ajibola Lawal; representatives of past military administrators and former governors of Oyo State; former deputy governor, Engineer Hamid Gbadamosi; Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun; former Minister of Trade and Investment, Chief (Mrs) Onikepo Akande; former Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Badejoko Adeniyi; and the President, Oyo State Customary Court of Appeal, Hon Justice T.M Abdulganiyu.

Ijebu Protest Backs Due Process for Awujale

Residents of Ijebu-Ode on Monday took to the streets in a peaceful protest, backing the Ogun State Government’s suspension of the Awujale selection process and demanding stiff punishment for anyone linked to bribery.

The protesters, under the banners of Ijebu Sons and Daughters and Ijebu-Ode Progressive Youths, marched through major streets of the town, displaying placards with inscriptions such as “Awujale stool is not for sale,” “Governor Abiodun, save Ijebuland from crisis,” and “We want the best prince as Awujale.”

The procession terminated at the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Secretariat, where the Chairman, Mr Dare Adebiosu, addressed the demonstrators.

Honourable Adebiosu said the Ogun State Government has no preferred candidate for the Awujale stool, explaining that the suspension was solely to guarantee strict adherence to due process.

He stressed that the government’s intervention was aimed at ensuring fairness, transparency, and peace in Ijebuland, assuring that the process would resume at the appropriate time and produce an Awujale acceptable to the people.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Alhaji Babatunde Salami said the demonstration was to caution kingmakers against actions that could undermine the integrity of the revered stool.

He described the Awujale stool as highly respected within and outside Yorubaland, adding that it must not be subjected to manipulation or monetary influence.

Also speaking, Mr Yusuf Adetilewa and Mrs Morolayo Oyesefo called for equal treatment of all contestants, urging the government to sanction both bribe givers and takers to prevent future disputes and litigation.

Meanwhile, traditional rulers known as the Alagemos in Ijebuland have also endorsed the state government’s action.

Speaking after a meeting at the palace of the Ija-Oloko of Imosan, the Alapini Awopa General of Ogun State, High Chief Tajudeen Adekunle Muili, expressed confidence that the suspension was not intended to impose any candidate, but to ensure due process.

Similarly, the Gbosa and Baale of Imosan, High Chief Wahab Samsideen Adebayo, said the suspension would allow kingmakers to conclude the process transparently, noting that the Funsengbuwa Ruling House had already submitted its list of candidates.

Both traditional leaders appealed for an expedited process that would lead to the emergence of an Awujale committed to peace and development in Ijebuland.
