The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has called on politicians and the entire citizens to accept the verdict of the Presidential Election Tribunal when declared to enhance the healing and development of Nigeria.

The body of Christian clerics gave the advice at a press conference marking the end of its three days Executive Retreat in Ibadan.

The PFN National President, Bishop Wale Oke, explained that the keenly contested 2023 general election almost split the nation from top to bottom, hence the need for political gladiators to bury their hatchets to allow the pronouncement of the tribunal put a rest to their grievances.

Bishop Oke, who lamented the economic hardship of Nigerians, called on President Bola Tinubu to relieve the citizens of their pains.

The PFN President while expressing optimism over the current situation in the country, urged President Tinubu not to witch hunt any citizen but to focus on making Nigeria a more virile and prosperous nation.

He enjoined the newly appointed ministers, when inaugurated, to support the president in order to provide solution to the economic hardship currently being faced in the country.

Commenting on ECOWAS’ decision on coup by the Junta in Niger Republic, the PFN through its Director of Diaspora Operations, Bishop Goddy Okafor, advised the heads of states and top diplomats of west African countries to utilize strong economic as well as diplomatic pressure rather than military force.

The Jumat service at Agodi Ibadan took a novel dimension on Friday as angry workers observed prayers at the entrance of the Secretariat.

This  came on the heels of protests by the Oyo State workers and pensioners under the umbrella of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), which entered its fiffth day over a number of demands from the State Government.

The workers were insisting that they would not retreat until the state governor, Seyi Makinde addressed them.

Oyo NLC and its TUC counterpart had since the commencement of the protests on Monday, blocked the entry and exit gates of the Oyo State Secretariat with their cars.

This was to ensure workers did not enter the State Secretariat to resume the day’s work but to join the protest.

Among the requests of the workers are payment of salary deductions, palliatives for workers, upward review of pension allowances, payment of leave bonus, payment of gratuities to retirees who had been stagnated since the year 2021 and release of promotion letters for the Year 2021 and 2022.

As of time of filing this report, Governor Makinde was yet to return to the state to address the workers after his trip outside the state earlier in the week.

For the umpteenth time, the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN,  has reiterated its call on the Federal and State governments in Nigeria to declare Muharram 1, the first day of the Islamic Hijrah Calendar 1445 A.H, as a public holiday.

In the Hijrah 1445 A.H Message, the National President of MMPN, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun said such a declaration would be in line with the rule of law, fairness, and justice to millions of Muslims in Nigeria.

Balogun urged the Federal Government to give recognition to Muslim New Year in the interest of fairness as benefitted by the Christian brethren every January 1.

This gesture, he stressed, would give Muslims a sense of belonging in the polity.

Muharram 1, is the Islamic calendar equivalent of January 1, which is observed as a public holiday in Nigeria.

Muharram 1, is our own January 1, we want both the Federal and state governments alike to declare it as such in the interest of religious harmony in the country”, Balogun said.

He implored the government at various levels to recognise the Hijrah calendar and use it side by side with the Gregorian calendar.

Balogun congratulated Muslims and non-Muslims alike for witnessing another new Islamic year and urged them to reflect on their deeds and activities during the past year.

He asked Muslims to use the opportunity of the New Year to migrate from their evil ways in the past and renew their commitments for good in the New Islamic Year as well as pray to Allah to guide the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in piloting the affairs of the Nation.

The MMPN President also called on the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to enter into dialogue with the Nigerian Government on the issue and other issues affecting the Muslim Ummah in the country.

He implored Muslims to rededicate themselves to the cause of building an egalitarian society and join hands with other Nigerians in moving the nation forward.

Balogun, however, commended State governors who had declared public holiday for Islamic New Year, especially in the Northern part of the country as well as Oyo and Osun states in South West, urging others to emulate their colleagues.

He described a series of attacks on innocent Nigerians by some insurgency groups as unislamic and pleaded with the affected groups to cease fire and stop the violence as a demonstration of its readiness to embrace peace.

Balogun equally called for stringent legislation against rapists, kidnapping, and all other acts of terrorism in the country, saying it was getting too rampant because the culprits always get away with it.

Our correspondent, ‘Dayo Adu, reports that in some of the parks visited, few passengers were seen boarding vehicles to to other parts of the country as transport fares outside Ibadan and other states of the federation have gone up.

Cost of fare to Lagos has increased from 1500 to 2300, passengers going to Abeokuta now pay 3100 as against the former price of 2500.

Similarly, passengers going to the northern part of nigeria are paying double as high as 23100 as against the 12000 naira it was boarded during the Eid el fitri two months ago. Cost of fare from ibadan to Abuja and Kebbi state are 15,000 and 22000 as against the former price of 10,000 and 11,000.

Some of the passengers who attributed the situation to the effect of removal of subsidy on petrol said it was a short time sacrifice.

A commercial who plys Ibadan to Niger linked the low patronage to the disparity in the prices of petrol across states of the federation and advocated flat price of 300 naira per litre.

Mina, a valley in the South Eastern part of Makkah will accommodate the pilgrims for a couple of nights in the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

It is nicknamed “City of Tents” because of the massive presence of over 100,000 air-conditioned tents which will house Oyo pilgrims and their counterparts from about 160 countries.

From tent city of Mina, the pilgrims are expected to ascend Mount Arafat, an important rite which precedes the celebration of the Muslim festival of Eid El Kabir.

In Islamic tradition, Hajj exercise is regarded as incomplete without the ascension of Mount Arafat

The pilgrims are also expected to proceed from Mina to a nearby village called Musdalifa to perform the symbolic throwing of stones at the Devil between sunrise and sunset, in commemoration of Prophet Ibrahim’s stoning of Satan who tried to discourage him from sacrificing his son in fulfilment of his vow to Allah.

The pilgrims from Oyo State presently in Mina included the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Adebayo Lawal, who is also the Amir ul Hajj, and other dignitaries.
