81 Division of the Nigerian Army has concluded the 2020 Captain to Major practical examination for sixty-two officers with advice to the officers to be alive to the responsibility of their new rank.

The Examination President, Major General Lucky Irabor who gave the advice at the closing ceremony for the examination held at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, noted that the Nigeria Army would continue to improve on its standard in line with international best practices.

According to the Examination President of the 2020 Captain to Major practical examination, the performance of the sixty-two officers was very impressive urging those that will not be promoted after the week-long examination to return to their units and be prepared for the next opportunity.

He said the examination will determine their growth in the Nigerian Army, and advised them to live up to the responsibilities, duties and challenges of their new rank in the Nigeria Army.

Major General Irabor commended all the instructors from the Defense Headquarters and the participants in the examination noting that the chief of Army Staff when presented with the results of the officers would be proud of the crop of officers that are coming up in the army.

The Captains were tested around staff duties, map reading, tactics, low intensity conflicts, Communications, French language, skill at arms and staff duties at different stages which the results were read to the officers during a close door session with only the officers and instructors.

The three best candidates of the examination, Captain Mukhtar Aliyu of Engineer Corp, Captain Babatunde Elegbe of Infantry Corp and Captain Chukwuma Nwobi of Infantry Corp were later called out for a special handshake with the examination president.

General Officer Commanding of the 81division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Godwin Omelo commended the officers for their performance noting that the examination was to prepare the junior officers towards attainment of staff course and also improving their knowledge and standard in the military profession.

He also advised the Captains that would fall below the average to also return to their units to work to perform better during the next opportunity.

According to the instructors of the practical promotion examination, the officers on the rank of Captain have three attempts to pass the examination for promotion to the rank of Major.

The Nigeria Army wants the collaboration of the Ogun State government towards improving the security architecture of the state. 

General Officer Commanding, GOC, 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Godwin Umelo who made the call in Abeokuta during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun said he was in the state for a tour of Army formations under his command. 

Major General Umelo who maintained that all hands must be on deck to secure the society also encouraged people of the State to enlist in the military. 

Responding, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun commended officers and men of the Nigerian Army for their efforts towards preserving the Country’s corporate existence and supporting other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the State.

The Governor promised to create more awareness on the opportunities and motivate the people of the state to enlist in the Army.
