Oyo APC chieftain, Fola Akinosun, commends broadcast media professionals….

Celebrates Premier FM, Ibadan in grand style

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State, Dr Fola Akinosun has described Radio broadcasting as a tool that had played positive roles since the country’s pre-independence era.

Dr Fola Akinosun made this known while delivering his keynote address as chairman on the occasion of Radio Nigeria’s Premier FM twentieth anniversary, held on Saturday, 30th Oct at Iyagunku GRA, Ibadan.

The APC chieftain said the broadcast media has played pivotal roles in the actualization of democracy, vis a vis all spheres of the nation’s socio-political, cultural and economic arena.

He described the media, especially the radio, as an agent of development right from independence and that it remained a versatile tool for effective communication.

The philanthropist and Oyo south Senatorial hopeful said there is no better time than now for the media to live up to its status as the ‘fourth estate of the realm’ in championing the course of a united Nigeria as no meaningful feat could be achieved in a divided and chaotic environment.

Dr Akinosun however commended Radio Nigeria Premier FM for sustaining the flagship in broadcasting and its professionalism in the discharge of unbiased news reportage and quality programming despite the huge competition as well as the proliferation of FM stations in the sector.

“I recall those days when we had only Radio Nigeria and the state-owned radio, how things change with time. What we are celebrating today is the fact that this station coped and maintained standard when the market was lean in terms of competition and interestingly, even now that the market is stretched it has not affected the quality of service whatsoever”

He said the commitment, focus, and bravery of staffers and management have proven beyond reasonable doubt that Premier FM would remain alive in as much radio broadcasting remains alive.

Reacting, Acting Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi thanked Dr Fola Akinosun for gracing the Premier FM 20th anniversary despite the fact that it clashed with the APC Congress in Oyo state.

Also speaking, the general manager, Premier FM Ibadan, Alhaji Aderemi Omotosho described Dr Fola Akinosun as an elder statesman, peaceful, kindhearted and a philanthropist.
