Grandfather In Police Net For Impregnating Granddaughter In Ogun

A 70 year old old man, Hunsu Sunday has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old granddaughter and subsequently impregnating her.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested after the aunt of the victim had reported the sexual assault on the girl at Ado-Odo Ota Divisional Headquarters.

Mr Oyeyemi said the aunt claimed that the girl had been living with her grandfather since the demise of her mother, adding that the victim informed her that her grandfather had been abusing her sexually for quite some time.

The Ogun PPRO who said the suspect was arrested, explained further that the grandfather confessed to the crime, claiming that he was not aware that her granddaughter was pregnant.

Mr Oyeyemi said the victim had been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

School Resumption: Proprietors, Principals in Ota Promise Strict Adherence to Covid-19 Protocols

It is no longer news that the federal government has approved the reopening of schools for graduating students and pupils in primary six, J.S.S 3 and S.S.S 3 classes across the country.

However, it is worthy to note that this partial reopening of schools must be in strict compliance with all Covid-19 preventive measures and guidelines to avoid any possible spike of the virus.

Radio Nigeria correspondent monitored the level of compliance with the laid down guidelines at some schools in Sango Ota area of Ogun State. 

Schools across the country were shut in March, this year as part of lockdown measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus disease which has now infected over 27,000 people in Nigeria.

Despite the continued increase in the number of infections in the country which has risen to over 27,000, the federal government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, recently announced partial reopening of primary and secondary schools for graduating students in primary 6, JSS 3 and SSS 3, though with strict adherence to Covid-19 preventive protocols.

In Ogun State, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government has the highest number of infections and the reopening of schools had been an issue of concern.

Head of one of the schools visited, Mrs Christiana Ikafime said her school is fully ready for academic activities with adherence to laid down protocols by the federal government.

A member board of Trustees, National Association of Private School Proprietors Ogun State, Reverend Olabisi Adeyemo said private schools in Santo-Ota are aware of the risk involved, hence thorough monitoring of the level of compliance would be carried out.

Some teachers and students expressed mixed feelings about the resumption and both agreed that it was necessary for them to improve their readiness for the forthcoming examinations.
