Commercial activities was paralyzed at Agodi Gate as followers of a masquerade known as “Ololu” went on a wild display with cutlasses and other weapons to scare traders and passers-by.

Our correspondent who witnessed the development reports that someone fired gunshot into the air to scare people.

Our correspondent also reports that traffic warden at the Bus Stop junction scampered for safety while traders and POS operators left their shops for fear of seeing the masquerade which they describe as a taboo.

A trader, Malik Ariyo said the annual festival had been hijacked by thugs who used it as an avenue rob people.

Traders at popular Araromi Spare Parts Market, Agodi Gate, Ibadan, Oyo State want the state government to relocate the market to a bigger and spacious place to prevent future occurrence of fire disaster. 

Two traders, Mr. Wasiu Agbolagade and Abideen Akande stated this in an interview with Radio Nigeria while reacting to the fire disaster that engulfed the market. 

Mr. Agbolagade and Akande attributed the fire disaster to power surge from electricity cable.

Also speaking, spare parts dealers, Mr. Taofik Ajisafe and Mrs Yetunde Oyeleke lamented the havoc that fire disaster had caused and solicited support from government.

All the shops at the market were totally razed as goods worth billions of naira engulfed by fire.

As at time of filing this report, traders were seen gathering together to ascertain the degree of loss and sympathizers were there to console the traders.

Following the crisis that erupted at Agodi gate earlier this morning, the Nigeria Police, Oyo State Command has deployed its officers to restore normalcy in the area.

Our correspondent gathered that the crisis in which one person was injured was triggered by an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State Command, who allegedly shot at a commercial motorcyclist.

The situation led to hurried closure of shops in the area to avoid attacks and looting by hoodlums.

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi said the rift was between an officer of the Correctional Centre and an Okada man and not police officer as speculated.

According to the Public Relation Officer, Nigerian Correctional Services,  Olanrewaju Anjorin, the rift started when commercial motorcyclists plying Iwo- Road –Bashorun Akobo axis refused to move their park from the frontage of the correctional centre.

Though, an unconfirmed sources said two persons were feared dead during the crisis.

Following the pandemonium that erupted after the shooting of a commercial motorcyclist in Gate area of Ibadan, okada riders have attacked the police stations in the area.

The Okada riders in their numbers attacked the police stations, destroying the buildings. The first police station in Idi-Omo, around bus stop was burnt by the rampaging riders while the second one opposite Wema Bank was vandalised.
