With a few days to the All Progressive Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Osun State, the state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has warned members of the party not to sell their membership cards.

Governor Oyetola gave the warning in Iperindo, Osu and Ilesa while addressing party members in Ijesa South Federal Constituency during his strategic engagement tour to the area.

The governor who was welcomed by thousands of enthusiast members sought their support in the primary election saying the power to cling to the second term ticket lies with members.

He welcomed some members of other parties who defected to APC and appealed to all aggrieved members to embrace peace saying everyone will benefit from the party.

Governor Oyetola during his visits to royal fathers in the area was asked by the Paramount ruler of Ijesa land and the Owa Obokun of Ijesa, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran on the possibility of establishing Ijesa University which the governor said it would be possible.

At the palace of the Olosu of Osu, the royal fathers in Atakumosa West Local Government appealed to the governor to help rejuvenate all the farmland that has been destroyed by the activities of gold miners.

Economy

The Alakola of Ikola-Ijesa, in Atakumosa West Local Government of Osun, Oba Adekunle Adeyemi has commended Governor Gboyega Oyetola, on his efforts at diversifying the state’s economy through gold mining.

Oba Adeyemi noted that with more revenue coming into state coffers through mining, Osun State would in no time end the over-reliance on federal allocation, even as the nation continues to struggle to end reliance on crude oil for revenue.

The traditional ruler made the remarks during a rural community engagement programme organised by the State’s Civic Engagement Office held in Ikola-Ijesa.

Oba Adeyemi, who commended the governor for minimizing illegal gold mining in the state, said with the current efforts to sanitise the mining sector, mining would soon be a good source of revenue for the state.

In his response, Governor Oyetola who was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Mr Oyintiloye Olatunbosun said that Osun State was blessed with large deposits of mineral resources, such as gold, lead, zinc, quartz, feldspar and several other precious metals.

The governor however assured that his administration was poised to invest more resources for the growth of the economy.

He also reiterated the commitment of his administration to partner with willing investors in the country with interest in responsible gold mining in the state.

Governor Oyetola also commended the licensed mining company operating in the state for maintaining cordial relationship with host communities.

With the resistance from the police, the mob thereafter moved to the highway blocking all the major routes in and out of the town that connected the community, insisting that Governor Gboyega Oyetola must address them and start the construction of the speed breakers.

The plea of a member of the Osun State House of Assembly who represents the Atakumosa East and West Local councils, Mr Babatunde Komolafe fell on deaf ear as the youth maintained that work on the breakers must commence immediately.
