‘My administration has done a lot for education’ – Gov. Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged the support of his administration for the smooth take-off of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, saying that, education is a top priority of his administration.

The governor, who stated this while receiving members of the Institution’s Governing Council, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, said that he was ready to approve the release of the Government Technical College, Ogbomoso as a temporary site for the take-off of the Institution.

Governor Makinde explained that education is one of the central pillars of his administration and that he has done a lot for the sector.

He assured the Governing Council that the government would deploy the State Security outfit, Amotekun Corps to ensure the school operates in a safe and secure environment while it will also engage with federal agencies on the issue of security.

Earlier, the pioneer Chairman of the Council, Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Professor Dakas  James said following the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede the management of the Institution has been working assiduously to ensure its take-off.

He noted that the governor was the chief facilitator of the establishment of the Institution which remains one of the outstanding landmark achievements of his administration.

He equally sought the assistance of the state to put necessary facilities in Ayede Community for the easy take-off of the Institution.

Federal Poly Ayede Takes off for 2022/2023 Session

Newly founded Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Ogbomoso will commence academic activities with the 2022/2023 session.

Rector of the institution, Ayede, Dr Taofeek Adekunle, stated this at a town hall meeting with stakeholders in Ogbomoso.

Dr Adekunle’s management of the school was only awaiting the approval and accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education NBTE.

He also noted that new staffers would receive their letters of appointment on or before October 2022. 

In his remark, the Chairman Governing Council, Dakas Dakas said the management of the Institution was poised to give their best in ensuring that the school commenced and retain high moral and academic standards.

He emphasized the institution would not be involved in any religious or ethnic issues that may truncate peaceful coexistence and advancement of the new school.

Dakas, who acknowledged the roles being played by the indigenes, commended them for their unflinching support and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in them by the government and the people of Ogbomoso land.

Some of the speakers at the cocktail reception organized by the Ogbomoso Consultative Forum included Dr Saka Balogun, (Rtd) Major General Oladayo Popoola, Barrister Olusegun Adekunle, Amb Akin Oyateru, Prof Jekayinfa, Professor Jide Ajao, Professor Segun Ajiboye and others task the management team on the need to ensure smooth takeoff, and promised continuous support for the institute.

Professor Aderinto, retired academia from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife said he and other dons from Ogbomoso would make themselves available in assisting the school on resource verification and others.

The Federal institution was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in February 2021 and appointed the Rector, Governing Council in April 2021

 In a bid to ensure hitch-free take-off and sustainability, the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oladuni Oyewumi Soun Ajagungbade set up a group of eminent indigenes of Ogbomoso called Ogbomoso Consultative Council which aims to ensure adequate support for developmental projects in the community.

Islamic Cleric Harps On Moral Rebirth For Societal Reformation

The rector of the newly established Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Dr Taofeeq Abdulhameed has identified moral rebirth as essential for societal reformation. 

He stated this at an annual Ramadan Lecture/ Appeal Fund for the School Mosque organised by Muslim Old Students Association, Lagelu Grammar School, Agugu, Ibadan held at the school hall.

Dr Abdulhameed who until his new appointment was the Chief Imam, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, said every individual has a role to play in reforming the society through good moral conduct which is the foundation of everlasting reformation.

“Societal reformation starts with you and I. It starts with each individual. Except we reform ourselves morally, the society will be in chaos”.

“To achieve this, there is no need for everybody to be craving for material things all the times. Excessive craving for material things would lead to corruption. We should try as much as possible to emphasize on morals.”

“Where morality is the order of the day, there will be discipline and there will be consideration for others unlike being selfish. Today most of us are self-centered in our daily activities, in everything we do, we considered ourselves first. There is nothing bad in considering oneself first but should not be at the detriment of others”.

Dr Abdulhameed urged Nigerians to appreciate Allah, make firm their belief and control their innate desires as well as greediness for the betterment of the society. 

Chairman on the occasion, former Secretary to Oyo State government, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Olajide represented by Chief Gbade Oyepeju advised youths, especially students to make contentment and uprightness their watchwords for better future.

“As Muslim students, they should not be found wanting in all ramifications of life. They should not join bad gangs like Yahoo boys. Let them use good characters to preach Islam to others.”

In a keynote address, Chairman, Old Students Association, Lagelu Grammar School, Ibadan Branch, Alhaji Kola Animasahun pointed out that the lecture was a means of guidance to the upcoming generation, urging parents to spread the message to their children.

Earlier, the Amir, Muslim Old Students Association, Lagelu Grammar School, Branch, Dr Ibraheem AbdHameed said the lecture was put in place in a bid to see how the society could be better from its current troubled state. 

The theme of the lecture is “Societal Reformation: My role as a Muslim”.
