The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, on Monday, announced that it had ditched the paper and pencil test model and has adopted the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for the conduct of the Senior School Certificate Examination.

This is contained in a statement signed by the acting head of the Public Affairs Unit of WAEC, Moyosola Adesina, and released on Monday.

According to the statement, the innovation would kick off with the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for private candidates in February 2024.

In line with global best practices, the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council wishes to inform the general public, and all its stakeholders, that it has concluded plans to migrate its WASSCE for Private Candidates Examination Diets from Paper and Pencil Test to Computer Based Examination,” the statement from the body partly read.

Parents have commended the Oyo State Government for conducting the 2023 entrance examination into the seven science schools through Computer Based Test, CBT.

The parents said the mode of conduct was apt, noting that it would enhance merit and competitiveness among the Five Thousand, Three Hundred (5,300) candidates seeking admission into the Seven Science Schools across the state.

A parent, Mr. Olapade Hamzat, expressed delight over the exercise, saying the examination was devoid of malpractices, adding that the process adopted would give room for the children to have qualitative education.

The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, who monitored the computer-based exercise in some centres in Ibadan metropolis, expressed happiness at the turnout of candidates, saying admission into the schools of science is now competitive.

 “In all the three centers that have been monitored, the students and centers are doing wonderfully well.”

“Although, there is still room for improvement, the ministry is equally looking forward to having one or two Accredited Computer Base Exams Centers so that the Ministry could be conducting exams of this nature for our students and other agencies that may want to do the kind of this exam in the near future.”

The Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke says his administration is set to address the low performance of students from the state in national examinations.

Governor Adeleke stated this at the commissioning of a Computer Based Test, CBT center donated by the Chief of Army Staff under the Civil-Military intervention projects in Ibokun.

The governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, described the current position of Osun State in public examinations as unpalatable.

Governor Adeleke who highlighted measures in place by his government to enhance the state’s performance rating in public examinations, lauded the military authority as well as the facilitator for locating the project in the state.

He said his government is focused on reversing the current poor standing of the state in public examinations and placing it between number one to ten by giving urgent attention to the learning environment, learning tools, and teacher-student ratio.

The governor added that his government is already prioritizing the improvement of schools by embarking on renovation and upgrading of facilities, pointing out that teachers’ welfare was also the main priority point on the agenda to motivate them in the teaching-learning process.

The Nigeria Police Force has scheduled medical screening for successful candidates in the Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 2021 recruitment exercise for Police Constables to hold between May 17th and 31st, 2022.

The exercise is slated to take place at designated centres in the seventeen (17) Police Zonal Commands.

2021 RECRUITMENT OF POLICE CONSTABLES – MEDICAL SCREENING HOLDS FROM MAY 17

• Candidates to check application status on recruitment portal, www.policerecruitment.gov.ng

The Nigeria Police Force invites all candidates, who took part and were successful in the recruitment screening Computer-Based Test (CBT) for applicants in the ongoing 2021 recruitment exercise for Police Constables, to proceed for Medical Screening scheduled to hold between 17th May, 2022 and 31st May, 2022 at designated centres in the seventeen (17) Police Zonal Commands. 

Consequently, all candidates who took part in the recruitment screening examination are to check their application status and print out their medical screening slip, if qualified, for the next stage of the recruitment screening exercise. 

The applicants are to appear at the various screening venues in their clean white T-shirts and shorts with the following mandatory basic requirements: 

i. National Identity Number (NIN);

ii. Original and duplicate copies of credentials – O’ Level Result(s), Certificate of Origin and Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age – neatly arranged in two white flat files with recent passport photographs attached;

iii. Printout of application submission confirmation page

iv. Duly completed Guarantor’s form 

Any candidate who fails to present (i – iv) above, will not be considered for the screening.

The medical screening printout will show specific screening dates, times, and designated locations for each candidate within the Zones/States/FCT. Detailed and specific guidelines for each State will be announced by the Police Public Relations Officers in the Seventeen Police Zonal Commands, thirty-six states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). 

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, reiterates that the recruitment exercise is absolutely free of charge and without any pecuniary obligation. The IGP equally assures that the process will be conducted in the best tradition of transparency and accountability. He advises the applicants to be wary of online imposters, scammers, and other criminal elements who might want to take advantage of the recruitment process to dupe innocent applicants. Some candidates sitting for this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB in Ekiti State have lamented over the malfunctioning of the machines using for accreditation and computer set meant for the examination.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the exercise in Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti, EKSU reports that, as at eleven o‘clock in the morning the candidates were yet to commence the examination.

In an interview, some of the candidates expressed dissatisfaction over the development and called on JAMB management to proffer solution to such, as the examination continues.

Also, parents of some of the candidates at the EKSU centre including Prince Kunle Adeniyi and Mrs Rose Ogundele described the development as uncalled for.

Meanwhile, at the Ekiti Anglican Diocesan High School, Ile Abiye CBT centre and Phoenix CBT centre Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, the examination went smoothly as there was no case of computer system malfunctioning as confirmed by some of the candidates.

The examination started as scheduled in other centres visited in Ado and outside the state capital, as the first and second batches students have sat for the examination.

Radio Nigeria observed the presence of security operatives, particularly officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, at the centres visited.

Ekiti State has twelve CBT centres located in Ado , Oye, Ijero, Ikere, Igede and ikole Ekiti.

JAMB UTME which started today is expected to end on the sixteenth of this month with about two million candidates registered for the Examination nationwide.

The 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME has commenced on Saturday across the country.


In Ibadan, the Oyo state capital our correspondent reports that the exercise which started on schedule in some of the designated centres hosted a high number of candidates and parents who conveyed their children to the centres.


At the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Computer Based Test, CBT, Centre, the UTME candidates were arranged in batches into the CBT halls without hitches.


In an interview, one of the candidates, l lTomiwa Akinseye said the exam started on time, adding that some of the questions were not unexpected as she had already prepared for the exam.


A parent who accompanied her child to the centre, Mrs Kemi Jegede, said the 2021 UTME enrollees had increased greatly stressing the need for JAMB to brace up for higher turn out of candidates in the future.

As at time of filing this report, radio Nigeria observed that non of the covid 19 safety protocols was complied with.

The Oyo State Government has released the cut-off marks for successful applicants who wrote the Computer Based Test (CBT) for the recruitment of Education Officers, between Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 8th April 2021 at the Bayo Akande Hall, University of Ibadan, Ajibode, Ibadan.

The Chairman, Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Aderibigbe Kamorudeen Abiodun, confirmed this, during a chat with journalists on Monday.

The Chairman affirmed that all necessary steps and due considerations have been taken before concluding on the cut-off marks for each of the twenty six  subject areas on which the applicants were tested.

Alhaji Aderibigbe commended the applicants brilliant performances in the test, noting that the applicants were all university graduates.

He attributed the good performance of the applicants to their educational backgrounds, adding that fifteen of the applicants hold first class degrees in their various disciplines .

He added that some others also posses second-class honors, upper and lower divisions while very few of them had third class in their special fields.

Some of those with single Honors also possess educational bias certificates such as National Certificate in Education (NCE), Grade 2 Teachers Certificates and Postgraduate Diplomas in Education .

“You will recall that the Civil Service Commission, had between Tuesday 6th to Thursday 8th April 2021 , conducted the Computer Based Test for prospective Education Officers, only Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty-Six (5266) out of the Fourteen Thousand applications received were shortlisted, through the States job portal.

“A total of Three Thousand, Three Hundred and Twenty One (3321) finally sat for the Computer Based Test (CBT).

“Only Six Hundred and Ninety Two vacancies exist for the Education Officers Cadre and the best applicants will be recruited, based on their qualifications, performance at the CBT and the Commission’s interview.”

According to him, the Consultants, who are education experts, will conduct the interview to ascertain the capabilities of the applicants and the genuineness of their credentials.

Alhaji Aderibigbe noted that all the successful applicants will be given two weeks notice to be aware of the interview dates so they can access and print out letters of invitations for the interview from the Oyo State job portal.

Alhaji Aderibigbe further applauded the magnanimity of the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, for allowing merit and competence as well as consideration of geo-political zones in all recruitments, to avoid lopsidedness, because according to him, the governor was elected by all the zones in the State.

Oyo State Human Capital Development Office is set to organise a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for successful applicants for the Nigeria-Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Authority’s scholarship for 100 level students in Nigerian Universities.

The Test which holds tomorrow 31st March and Thursday 1st April, 2021, will be conducted on Mathematics, English, Aptitude and Critical Thinking.

A notice authorised by the Executive Assistant on Administration to the Governor, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe, indicates that candidates with number OYOSCH00001 to OYOSCH01645 will write their CBT on Wednesday 31st March 2021 while the remaining applicants will write theirs on Thursday 1st April 2021.

The venue of the CBT is Education Advancement Centre, 45 Awolowo Avenue, Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria while the time for the commencement of the CBT is 9 a.m.

Candidates are advised to arrive early at the venue and adhere to all COVID-19 precautionary measures.

The 2020 UTME examination conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, commenced in most of the accredited Computer Based Test, CBT centres in Ibadan.

Our correspondent who monitored the exercise at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning CBT Centre, Yinmbol College, Orogun, JAMB office, and other centres reported that the exercise was conducted in batches.

In an interview, some parents commended JAMB for a well-coordinated exam and appealed for prompt notice in case of a change in the exam time table and venues.

In an interview, the coordinator at the U.I. Distance Learning CBT Centre, Dr Kunle Odedokun said the examination commenced as scheduled saying the computers at the center were not only functional but sufficient to accommodate candidates allocated to the center.

Dr Odedokun explained that the mock exam earlier conducted for most of the candidates had made them very familiar with computer operations. Some students who spoke to Radio Nigeria said they were well prepared for the exam but appealed to JAMB to be transparent in the release of their results.
