The Oyo State Executive Council has disclosed plans to launch an integrated security concept to bring together state and non-state security actors to effectively tackle insecurity in the state.


The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Retired Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni stated this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state security task force meeting held in Ibadan.


Mr Owoseni explained that the Army, the Police, the DSS, Civil Defense Corps, Amotekun operatives, the OPC, the Vigilante, the Agbekoya, the Soludero, and other state and non-state security actors would be brought under one umbrella to fight crime in Oyo State.


Also speaking, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun hinted that the state government has perfected plans to establish hot spots and strategic policing.


Dr Olatunbosun said the group when launched would be stationed at various troubled spots in the state, especially in areas like Foko, Born Photo, Popo, and other disturbing areas of the state.


In a remark, the Chief of Staff to the Oyo State governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka, maintained that the two concepts would commence very soon.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state this morning engaged his Chief of Staff, Bisi Ilaka in an exhibition match to declare open the maiden edition of GSM Tennis Championship at Ibadan Recreation Club, Sabo.

Spectators were thrilled with various skills displayed by Governor Makinde, who has been a tennis player of many years and Chief Ilaka.

Earlier, Governor Makinde had reiterated the determination of his administration to continue to give sports the needed attention.

One hundred and twelve players are participating in the GSM Tennis Championship which will end this Thursday.

Medical experts, academic giants, captains of industry, high-ranking clergymen and other notable personalities today defied the odds to pay their last respect to a man many described as an enigma, Emeritus Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe.

On arriving the church, guests were made to go through all precautionary measures to guard against Covid-19. 

In a sermon, the retired Bishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, the Most Reverend George Lasebikan said Emeritus Professor Akinkugbe was indeed a colossus who bestrode the world.

While lamenting the rot and corruption which was now prevalent in Nigeria, the Most Reverend Lasebikan challenged Nigerians to emulate the deceased who despite his global achievements remained humble, simple and contented.

In a message, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Oyebisi Ilaka lauded the unparalleled contributions of Emeritus Professor Akinkugbe describing him as one of the stars that made Ibadan city shine.

Delivering a eulogy, a renowned diplomat and academic, Dr Christopher Kolade who is also a childhood friend to the deceased said Professor Akinkugbe’s life mission was serving God and humanity and this he did excellently.

Professor Oladipo Akinkugbe, CFR, was the foundation chairman of the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board, JAMB, an academic of note and holder of many chieftaincy titles.
