The Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke says his administration is set to address the low performance of students from the state in national examinations.

Governor Adeleke stated this at the commissioning of a Computer Based Test, CBT center donated by the Chief of Army Staff under the Civil-Military intervention projects in Ibokun.

The governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, described the current position of Osun State in public examinations as unpalatable.

Governor Adeleke who highlighted measures in place by his government to enhance the state’s performance rating in public examinations, lauded the military authority as well as the facilitator for locating the project in the state.

He said his government is focused on reversing the current poor standing of the state in public examinations and placing it between number one to ten by giving urgent attention to the learning environment, learning tools, and teacher-student ratio.

The governor added that his government is already prioritizing the improvement of schools by embarking on renovation and upgrading of facilities, pointing out that teachers’ welfare was also the main priority point on the agenda to motivate them in the teaching-learning process.

Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has warned candidates from being extorted by vendors of scratch cards.

Jamb Registrar, Professor Isiaq Oloyede stated this during an assessment tour of some Computer Based Test centres in Ibadan.

Professor Oloyede who advised the students present during the tour not to use the profile of their parents while registering said they must not register beyond the price of 4,700 naira.

Professor Oloyede also cautioned the owners of CBT centres against sharp practices otherwise their licenses would be withdrawn.

Also speaking, Deputy Registrar, University of Ibadan, Mrs Francisca Ayodele said the registration had been going on smoothly all along.

The assessment tour which started from the JAMB office at Idi Ape and ended at the University of Ibadan was to see the level of how the United Tertiary and Matriculation Examination, UTME, registration exercise was being carried out.

Chairman, Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Pastor Akinade Alamu says only 10 percent of applicants who sat for the Computer Based Test, CBT to recruit secondary school teachers in the state scored above fifty percent.

Pastor Alamu who stated this on Monday while featuring on an Ibadan-based Radio station said the TESCOM board was disturbed with the poor performance of the applicants.

He also explained that the board would determine the cut off marks to be used which would be based on each subject, pointing out that the highest score in the test was 86 percent.

The TESCOM Chairman said the board would soon come up with the schedules of the interview for the successful applicants in the next one to two weeks so that employed teachers would resume for the new academic year which begins in September. 

He added that people with disabilities would also participate in the interview while 3 applicants gave birth at the screening centre for the CBT. 

It would be recalled that over seventy thousand applicants sat for the  examination held early this month, which its result was released last week.

The Oyo State Post-Primary Teaching Service Commission has released the results of the recently held Computer Based Test for applicants into the State teaching service.

HOW TO CHECK THE RESULT

Applicants who sat in for the exam are to visit https://tescom.jobportal.oyostate.gov.ng/ and login to check their results.

 Recall that the Oyo State government disclosed that 441 first-class graduates from different fields applied to write the computer-based test (CBT).

The Chairman, Oyo State Teaching Service Commission, Pastor Akinade Alamu stated this while inspecting the exercise which held at the University of Ibadan CBT hall.

The exercise which was to run through the week till Saturday attracted applicants from all the zones of the State.

Pastor Alamu said the interest of the said best candidates in teaching service portended significant turnaround for the education sector in the State, as the present administration under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde has ensured all other inputs to achieve success have been provided.

“We are happy to have the best applicants, especially the first-class graduates taking part in this exercise, the government of Oyo State is desirous of lifting education to a higher level so that we will have as much as the best among our applicants.

“We want to bring back the pride attached to teaching in the old, it is the best profession and if we have the best hands joining, it is a good omen.

“The scores at the interview level will place applicants higher, we have a mark for NCE, we have different mark for graduates and there is a higher mark for first class, this shows that the whole thing will be based on merit.

“The present government is concerned with the upliftment of education in the State, this is why we decided that before we appoint anybody as teacher, such a person must be qualified, competent and ready to work in line with the passion of the governor for education, I believe this will raise the standard of education in the State and will catapult the performance rating of our State to the first three.”

Pastor Akinade said the inputs earlier made available to the education sector by the present administration like distribution of compendium of past questions of a subjects, the intervention classes, distribution of books among others were indications of a State that always planned.

He saluted the comportment of all applicants that wrote the test on Tuesday and reiterated the stand of the government to pick the best among the applicants.

Over four hundred first class graduates are part of seventy thousand job seekers that applied for teaching appointment under Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM.

Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs Grace Oderinde who stated this in Ibadan at the commencement of the Computer Based Test, CBT, for the applicants said, there are seven thousand and five hundred vacancies.

Speaking with newsmen, Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Mrs Grace Oderinde assured applicants that the recruitment would be merit based.

Mrs Oderinde however hinted that the state would give special recognition to the applicants with first class certificate noting that Governor Seyi Makinde showed empathy on why such graduates should be roaming the streets.

The chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT in the state, Mr Samson Adedoyin who expressed satisfaction with the arrangement put in place for the test, admonished the prospective applicants to put in their best.

Mr Adedoyin explained that the NUT had pushed for the decentralization of the exercise but agreed with TESCOM based on logistics.

Some of the applicants in an interview with Radio Nigeria expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination.

The applicants also lauded government for zero payment for the whole recruitment exercise.

Radio Nigeria correspondent who monitored the exercise at the University of Ibadan, Distance Learning Centre, venue of the exercise reports that the exam was conducted in line with COVID-19 safety protocols.
