Ekiti State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on the State with effect from today November 1.


The State Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr Akin Omole announced this in a statement in Ado Ekiti.


He explained that the decision to lift the curfew was taken after an assessment of the security situation and the restoration of relative peace in the State.


The commissioner added that Governor Kayode Fayemi also approved the lifting of the restrictions placed on religious gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic with effect from today.


The commissioner stressed that Churches and Mosques were now free to open for worship without restrictions.


Mr Omole however emphasized the need for worshippers to continue to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocols, especially wearing of face-masks, maintaining social distancing, washing their hands and sanitizing their hands as well before joining their respective congregations.


He also stressed the need for residents in the State to be law abiding, vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement noticed in their areas to relevant authorities for prompt action.


Mr Omole assured that the State Government would leave no stone unturned towards ensuring the safety of lives and property of the people in the State.

Agriculture

Ogun state Joint Technical Task Team on movement of food and agricultural inputs have been told to be proactive in resolving issues related to making food available to the populace from the farms.

The state coordinator of Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Ganiyu Oseni gave the advice at state headquarters of the Nigeria Police, Eleweran, Abeokuta during the inauguration of the committee.

The state coordinator said the task team was set up to mitigate the negative impact of the COVID-19 on the agricultural sector.

Mr. Oseni hinted that the committee was to ensure the removal of bottlenecks encountered by farmers in moving their agricultural products including inputs from one location to the other considering the increased check points occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The committee named the Joint Task Team on emergency response to COVID-19 on challenges of movement of food and agricultural inputs in the country has the representative of the Nigeria Police as the Chairman, and members drawn from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, NSCDC, All Farmers Association, National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, while the representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is to serve as the Secretary.

The Joint Technical Task Team has four terms of reference including issuance of clear instructions to all security personnel and propagation of adequate information clarifying the controlled movement of food stuffs, livestock and agricultural inputs to achieve food sufficiency, during the ongoing fight against COVID-19 pandemic and afterwards.

Government of Oyo State has taken delivery of three truckloads of rice donated by the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.

The donation consist of 50-kilogramme of 1,800 bags of rice.

The Controller of Customs for Oyo/Osun Area Command, Helen Ngozi, who made the symbolic presentation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Ibadan on Monday, noted that the gesture was replicated in Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states as parts of measures to cushion the hardship of Nigerians at this period.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to  the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, notes that the Commissioner for Agriculture, Honourable Ojekunle Ojemuyiwa and the Executive Adviser to the governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Debo Akande, took delivery of the donation on behalf of the government.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Ojekunle, Oyo State has put in a place a standard that would ensure that those really in need are reached directly.

Also speaking, the Executive Adviser to the governor on Agribusiness, Dr. Akande, appreciated the Customs and the Federal government, noting that the state would ensure the palliatives reach the most vulnerable in the society.

Presenting the donation, Mrs Ngozi expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs for the kind gesture in releasing the truckloads of rice for donations to the people at such a trying time like this.
