About one hundred residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State have benefited from free eye screening and tests with subsidized eyeglasses and drugs to reduce the risk of eye problems including glaucoma and other related problems.

The eye screening which was held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto Abeokuta, was put together by the Ogun State Council of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union, RATTAWU, in conjunction with other partners.

An Optometrist, Dr Kingsley Egwe, who led the partners’ team, said the essence of the exercise was to create awareness for people on the importance of checking their eye statues regularly to avoid any eye-related issues that might degenerate to partial or total blindness if neglected.

Dr. Egwe who attributed old age, change of lifestyle, environment, and long use of screens without screen protectors as part of the causes of eye problems, urged people to prioritize their eye care at all times.

Beneficiaries including, the acting General Manager, NTA Abeokuta, Mr Kehinde Onoda commended the State RATTAWU and other partners for the laudable initiative of subsidizing the cost of eyeglasses and drugs, especially with the economic hardship currently facing citizens of the country.
