Forty Eight years after the former Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed was assassinated, some Nigerians have described his short regime as very impactful on Nigeria’s political and economic growth. 

A retired Head of Service in Ogun State, Dr Nofiu Aigoro said the creation of 9 States, including Ogun, ten days before General Murtala Mohammed was assassinated remained a landmark achievement in the history of the Country. 

The former Head of Service in Ogun State also applauded General Murtala Mohammed’s regime for initiating the process for the return of civilian rule and moving the Federal capital to Abuja within the regime’s short lifespan that lasted less than 7 months. 

Also, a former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly and an ex-soldier, Mr Dare Kadiri described the late General Murtala Muhammed as a role model, whose leadership style had helped to enhance his career as a young military officer. 

Mr Kadiri maintained that the assassination of late Muritala Muhammed was a turning point for the military’s reformation, away from incessant coups, towards professionalism and renewed commitment in rendering service to their fatherland.

The assassination of General Murtala Ramat Muhammed in his car, while stuck in traffic in Lagos, on February 13th, 1976 was part of an unsuccessful coup attempt, subsequently, his top aide, Lieutenant General Olusegun Obasanjo, became the Head of Government.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has urged public and civil servants in the state to continue to demonstrate more professionalism and dedication to their duties and responsibilities.

Governor Abiodun who stated this at Okemosan Abeokuta during the send-forth reception held in honour of Former Head of service Dr Nofiu Aigoro and six retired  Permanent Secretaries, Said his administration would continue to make the welfare of workers a priority.

Governor Abiodun reiterated that his administration was committed to resolving all outstanding issues, urging the entire workforce to take a cue from the meritorious service of the retired Head of Service and permanent secretaries.

While describing Dr Aigoro as a very calm, deliberate, committed, selfless and dependable administrator, Governor Abiodun also pointed out that the outgone Permanent Secretaries is very resourceful.

He said that his administration would continue to count on the wealth of experience of the former head of service and the permanent secretaries not only for the continued development of the public service but the state in general.

In a remark, the Former Head of service Dr Nofiu Aigoro while appreciating Governor Abiodun for finding him worthy of being the first Medical Doctor to be appointed as the Head of Service, implored civil servants in the state to continue to do their best.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun says his administration has paid nine billion naira out of over fourteen billion naira outstanding loans and deductions from workers’ salary.

Governor Abiodun who made this known while speaking at this year’s International Workers’ Day held at MKO Abiola Stadium Abeokuta, said payment of the outstanding balance would be accelerated.

Governor Abiodun also promised workers in the state that issue surrounding Contributing Pension Scheme Law and leave allowance would soon be addressed.

While pointing out that his administration would continue to provide conducive environment for workers for effective service delivery, Governor Abiodun, also said that his government had so far released 2.5 billion naira to off offset pensions.

The Ogun State Head of Service, Dr Nofiu Aigoro in a remark advised the workforce in the state to reciprocate the good intention of the state government by living up to expectations.

The Chairman of the State Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Isa Olude called on the government to appreciate the efforts of the workers and called for prompt payment of all workers’ entitlements.

Also speaking with Radio Nigeria, the State Chairman, Radio Television and Theatre and Art Workers’ Union, RATTAWU, Comrade Idowu Rotimi said Nigerian workers would continue to contribute their quota for the overall development of the country.
