Football Fans Club of Nigeria, FFCN, has described as untoward the attitude of some football lovers who vandalised facilities at the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja.

The attack followed a one-all draw between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Black Stars of Ghana which stalled the Eagle’s chance to feature at the world cup slated for Qatar.

The president of the Association, Ambassador Kemi Ogunfuwa who stated this in a chat with Radio Nigeria on what transpired at the national stadium, expressed regret that football lovers did not display the spirit of sportsmanship.

Ambassador Ogunfunwa explained that the failure of the national team to qualify for the world cup was a pain to all sports lovers, maintaining that the display of uncivil behaviour was however a national embarrassment.

Ambassador Ogunfuwa, while condemning the unruly behaviour, said even FFCN members who distanced themselves from the barbaric act also bore the brunt as some members suffered from the tear gas used to disperse the crowd.

“It is unfortunate, all the plastic chairs were destroyed, even the net on goal posts was cut. This is not a good development in our spotting circle.”She said

The FFCN president also described as most unfortunate, the attempt by the ravaging crowd to assault members of the Super Eagles.

Ambassador Ogunfuwa, who admitted that the failure of the Eagles was painful,  said the government needed to do more to prevent a recurrence of such.

“There should be raised barbed wires around the pitch to make it difficult for pitch invaders, there should be more security, even dogs to man the stadium” FFCN president submitted.

She however encouraged all fans to remember that football is a game of luck, you may win or lose.
