The Masifa Health Matter Committee has donated medical equipment worth over 10 million naira to the Osun State Government for use in the Masifa Primary Healthcare Centre. 

The medical equipment includes one crank hospital bed with mattress, Mackintosh, patient trolley, Accoson blood pressure monitors, Littmann stethoscopes, and Pulse Oximeters among others.

Presenting the equipment, the chairman, Masifa Health Matter Committee, Mr Teju Olakiigbe, lauded Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration for his effort in revamping the Osun State Health Sector with the revitalisation of 332 primary healthcare centres across the state. 

Mr Olakiigbe said Masifa community decided to support government with the equipment in order to enhance standard of health service in the community.

In a remark, Osun State Commissioner for Doctor Rafiu Isamotu appreciated the kind gesture of the community in deeming it fit to support the government to provide a well-furnished and comfortable health facility for the citizenry.

Doctor Isamotu urged another communities in the state to emulate the ancient community by supporting government efforts in the areas of health and education.

Osun State Governor, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola says a blend of active and soft forces is required to win the war against insurgency and restore an
enduring peace to the country.

Governor Oyetola made this known at the 10th edition of the Social
Media Seminar organised by the Department of Civil-Military Affairs in
conjunction with the Security Affairs Limited for social media influencers, bloggers, online journalists and members of the civil society organisations.

The governor advocated collective efforts in the fight against the raging insecurity in the country, noting that collaborative efforts and patriotism remained the required tool for the military and civilians to win the war against insurgency.

Governor Oyetola urged social media influencers to make peace and
public interest their watchword and uphold the value of true journalism.

In a remark, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur
Buratai restated the readiness of the army to end the raging security
challenges by leaving no stone unturned in curbing criminal activities
and ensuring general security.

There is need for politicians to emulate the principle and ideology of the late political icon, Senator Ayo Fasanmi for the nation to witness a new political order. 

This was the submission of Osun State governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola at a commendation service held in honour of the leader of Afenifere Group in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Governor Oyetola described late Fasanmi as a national hero whose contribution to the nation’s development cannot be looked down upon.

The governor said Pa Fasanmi was a true progressive who always protects and projects the noble and progressive ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

In a sermon, the Dean of All Saints Anglican Church in Osogbo, Venerable Olugbenro Fabuluje advised politicians to be selfless and patriotic as late political icon.

In a remark, the eldest son of the deceased, Mr Obafemi Fasanmi described his father as honest and humble person who had the interest of Nigeria at heart, saying the family takes solace in the fact that he lived a fulfilled life.

The commendation service was attended by former governor of Osun State, Chief Adebisi Akande, top government functionaries and traditional rulers among others.

As Nigeria marks Democracy day, Osun state Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola has described the recognition of June 12 as Nigeria official democracy day as a tribute to courage.

A cross-section of activists in the state also called for a review of the 1999 constitution to truly make it the people’s constitution.

The Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr Timothy Owoeye says the state assembly is considering a post-COVID-19 stimulus bill to assist the people of the state and better it’s economy.

Mr. Owoeye, stated this at the special plenary session to mark the first year anniversary of the 7th Assembly.

The Speaker, Mr. Owoeye said the assembly was concerned about the effect of the Coronavirus pandemic on the global economy which has brought about economic recession and loss of jobs.

The speaker urged the state government to quickly reel out its post COVID-19 economic plan saying the proposed stimulus bill would be given accelerated passage upon presentation before the House of Assembly.

Highlighting the achievements of the state assembly in the last one year, Mr. Owoeye said the assembly, through quality legislation, has passed eight bills that has direct impact on the people of the state.

He said effective oversight of ongoing developmental projects in the state and making the assembly accountable through publication of activities and effective public engagement and E-parliament were also done.

Mr Owoeye thanked the governor of the state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola and the people of Osun for their support and for allowing peace to reign in the state saying the state lawmakers would rededicate themselves to serving the people more in the second year of the 7th Assembly.

In his remarks, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola said the state admires the monumental achievements and people-oriented legislation the state assembly had delivered in the last one year.

Governor Oyetola appreciated the lawmakers for their understanding during the raging Coronavirus pandemic, saying he looks to the future with hope, confident that the state has what it takes to make it to the desired level in the days ahead.

He therefore urge the legislators, who are the representatives of the people to continue to mobilise the people to support the government.

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has directed reopening of worship centres across the state for two weeks.

This followed separate meetings he held with Christian and Muslim leaders on guidelines for reopening of churches and mosques across the state for two weeks.

The governor stated that the decision to reopen worship centers partially was in response to the request by religious leaders and the resolve of the Federal Government to lift ban on religious activities.

He said the state government had prepared some guidelines that must be followed in order to forestall possible spread of the virus as a result of the reopening, adding that further actions by the government would be determined by compliance level to the guidelines.

Mr Oyetola explained that only regular church services of not more than one hour and maximum of two services would be allowed, while Jumat service including sermon and prayers must not exceed 20 minutes.

He said vulnerable individuals such as those from age 65 and above and people with underlying ailments are to continue worshipping at their respective homes.

Mr Oyetola also directed that all church and mosques premises be fumigated to ensure that the worship environments were free of virus and other infectious diseases

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has forwarded the names of the nominees for the board of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC, to the state House of Assembly for ratification and approval.

The Speaker, Osun House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye at plenary acknowledged the receipt of the names of the OSIEC board nominees with Mr. Segun Oladitan as Chairman and six other members, selected across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

Mr. Owoeye said the state governor, exercising his powers under sections 197 and 198 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has constituted members for the state electoral body and that the state assembly would carry out its duty of screening the nominees.

While appealing to his colleagues to quickly work on the ratification of the names because of its importance, the Speaker directed the nominees to submit 35 copies of their Curriculum vitae to the Assembly by Thursday while their screening on the floor of the House will take place on Wednesday, 27th May 2020.

In another development, the House issued warning to CHAMS Nigeria Limited (the consultant responsible for payment of salaries to Osun workers) for failing to provide the Assembly with the reports of their activities in the state.

The Speaker who said he was displeased with the attitude of the management of the company, said since May 5 that the Assembly had written the company to furnish it with reports of their activities, the company had not replied or bother to provide the House with any explanation.

Mr. Owoeye said the action of the company shows disregard for the state legislature and that section 128 (1&2) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) empowers the Assembly to disengage their services with the state.

He therefore instructed the Clerk of the House to write the company again, as the last warning before sanctions would be taken against them, to furnish the Assembly with the requested reports.

Residents of Osun State have been reacting to the three days extension of the lockdown and other adjusted measures announced by Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Some of the respondents are of the view that the adjusted measure was a welcomed development to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.

The Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, has suspended all plenary and parliamentary activities for sixteen days.

This is to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease in the state.

At a press briefing held at the assembly complex, the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Moshood Akande noted that with confirmed cases of 36 and one death by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, it is expedient for the assembly to suspend all gathering to prevent the possible spread of the deadly Coronavirus.

He urged residents of the state to observe all precautions of regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizer, observing social distance and avoidance of large gatherings.

Mr. Akande also advised the State Government under the leadership of Governor Gboyega Oyetola to strengthen its resolve in combating the menace and activate necessary emergency public health protocols.

The “Osun Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Bill 2020” has passed through the first reading on the floor of the Osun House of Assembly, OSHA, after it was presented by the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye.

Presenting the bill before the House, Mr. Owoeye said a letter and 40 copies of the draft Bill on the establishment of the Amotekun Security Network was forwarded to his office by Governor Gboyega Oyetola with the Governor requesting speedy passage of the bill.

The speaker said the bill emanated from the forum of Southwest governors in order to address the state of insecurity in the region and the country as a whole.

He said the conference of speakers in the Southwest had met on Friday alongside majority leaders and clerks in the region, to consider and see how to go about the bill.

Mr. Owoeye said they all agreed that all the Southwest Assemblies should conduct a public hearing and that Monday, February 24 had been designated for a public hearing on the bill so stakeholders would have a say and make a contribution.

He said after the public hearing on the bill, the conference of Southwest Speakers will meet again on Wednesday, February 26 with the Attorney Generals in the region to look at the inputs and contributions of stakeholders as far as the bill is concerned.

Copies of the draft bill were distributed to other lawmakers after the motion for the first reading was moved by the majority leader, Mr. Maruf Olanrewaju and seconded by member representing Egbedore State Constituency, Mr. Babatunde Ibirogba.

As governors in South-West Nigeria put finishes touches on the Western Nigeria Security Network, WNSN, codenamed “Operation Amotekun”, Osun state Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has warned against misinformation by some groups of people.

Addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan said the genuine efforts should not be used to cause discord among the people.

People of Osun state have been urged to have maintenance culture so as to enjoy basic infrastructures provided by government.

Osun State Governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola made the call at the commissioning of Alajue-Oja Primary Health Center, Alajue-Ede, Ede South Local Government.

Represented by the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, the governor noted that the provision of the facility would enhance healthy living of residents of the state.

The governor noted that the revitalisation of Primary Health Centres was part of the administration’s programme geared towards delivering quality, adequate and affordable healthcare service for the people.

He advised the people to take their health seriously and patronise the hospitals and health centers for their own good.

The Governor of Osun State, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola says, the prevalent ‘get rich quick syndrome’ in the society only drown youths in the sea of misery and vanity.

Speaking at the Terminal Parade of the 2019 Batch B Stream 2 orientation course for Corps members posted to the state, at the NYSC, Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Mr. Oyetola said the get rich quick syndrome only erode youth the strength and ability required to work and achieve great things in life legitimately.

He therefore urged the youth corps members to avoid such attitude, which could also influence younger ones in their area of primary assignment.

The Governor encouraged the participants to embrace things capable of promoting peace and unity in all communities where posted, while he also charged them to stay away from partisan politics and other activities that could threaten their security.

In a remark, the Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Adegoke Ayodele reminded corps employers that corps members must not be given traveling permission without recourse to the NYSC Secretariat.

Mr. Ayodele said this became imperative to ensure adequate monitoring of the corps members, reduce the rate of their risk exposure in the overall interest of the Nation.

The NYSC state coordinator charged the participants to accept their posting in good faith, respect the culture of their host community and exercise highest level of discipline and impact on the host community in their various capacities.

He told the gathering that over seventy percent of the corps members had been posted to schools, particularly in the rural areas where they could be more useful, while those in medical field were deployed to Primary Health Centres.

A total of one thousand eight hundred corps members are posted to Osun state for the 2019 Batch B, Stream 2 service year.
