Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has praised Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, for completing his tenure as Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria.

Governor Makinde described Ogundoyin’s tenure as eventful, noting that he recorded remarkable and trail-blazing achievements and made Oyo State proud through his efforts while he served as the head of the Conference of Speakers.

This was just as the governor congratulated the new chairman of the body and Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, wishing him a successful tenure.

According to Governor Makinde, Ogundoyin’s historic emergence as the youngest and first Speaker from an opposition party to chair the body was quite remarkable, with his emergence symbolising a generational shift and ushering in a reform-driven and inclusive leadership.

The governor saluted Ogundoyin’s vision and commitment to service, which he noted, enabled him to achieve the initiation of the digital transformation of state legislatures by partnering with the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP,  to modernise legislative processes and the defence of legislative autonomy by strengthening the institutional voice of state legislatures.

The governor equally hailed Ogundoyin for ensuring that the Conference of Speakers contributed meaningfully to constitutional review process; achieved the expansion of International and Diplomatic Engagements, which focused on democratic values, legislative accountability, and institutional capacity building.

The Oyo State Governor further praised Ogundoyin for leading the conference to achieve the harmonisation of legislative procedures, establishment of Post-Legislative Scrutiny Unit, noting that Ogundoyin spearheaded the creation of Nigeria’s first Post-Legislative Scrutiny Unit at the sub-national level.

The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin has mourned the death of Chief Solomon Ogunjinmi, a PDP Chieftain in Ibarapa North Local Government and Chief Olayiwola Gabriel Adetoyese a.k.a Layi Baale, and a Chieftain of the party in Ibarapa East Local Government.

The two Ibarapa political leaders died within 24 hours.

The death of Chief Solomon Ogunjinmi, a former Executive Chairman of Ibarapa North Local Government, a former Sen. District Chairman and a current member, of Oyo State Civil Service Commission occurred on Tuesday, 30th January 2024 while Chief Layi Baale, a former Oyo South PDP Senatorial Chairman, a former SA Political Matters to late Governor Adebayo Alao Akala and the immediate past member of Oyo State Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, Ruwasa died on Wednesday, 31st January 2024.

The Speaker in a condolence message said he was deeply saddened by the deaths of the two powerful political leaders.

“It was with great sadness that I received the death of Chief Solomon Ogunjinmi and Chief Layi Baale, PDP leaders in Ibarapaland. These two deaths within 24 hours are distressing, unimaginable and painful to me and our great party in Ibarapaland. God has again shocked us to a state of numbness. When political father figures die, the gaps are felt by people who look up to them. Sad to hear that my great leaders have gone to meet with their creator. ”

Hon. Ogundoyin said the death of Chief Layi Baale was a great and personal loss to him and his political career.

“Chief Olayiwola Gabriel Adetoyese was an essential and integral part of my political journey. He was my guide, political supporter, pillar and mentor. I held him in high regard for his selfless efforts for our party, and I will continue to cherish and treasure the memories we shared. Chief Layi Baale as he was fondly called by everyone was loved by both old and young because of his simple and free nature. He was a great leader and a master strategist whose wealth of political experience was of great benefit to the party.

” I learned so much from the two leaders. They showed us the way and gave us pristine political tutelage. We have lost political role models, great team leaders and committed party chieftains and their deaths have left vacuums too wide to be filled.” Oyo Speaker said

He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed to God to bless the loved ones they left behind.

We have ordered a detailed investigation and our officers will work and collaborate with Oyo State Government to know the actual cause.”
