An Ibadan magistrate court has ordered the remand of seven suspects arrested in connection with the Shasha Market crisis in Abolongo Correctional Facility in Oyo state.

The suspects who are being alleged of arson and murder during the Shasha market crisis are Tajudeen Oladunni, Saburi Lawal, Ojo Joshua, Adekunle Olanrewaju, Olagunju James, Rasaq Yahya, Olaide Olawuyi, and six others.

At the hearing the Police prosecutor, Foluke Oladosu alleged that the suspects razed two houses belonging to Adelabu Ibrahim, a trader, and caused damages worth 50 million naira.

The police also alleged that the suspects burnt down a house belonging to Osuolale Akindele and destroyed property worth 20 million naira.

The Magistrate I.O. Osho, did not take the plea of the suspects “for want in jurisdiction”.

She ordered the police to return the case file of the defendants to the office of the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice, while the suspects were remanded in custody.

Thereafter, the case was adjourned till May 11 for mention.

A thirty-year-old man, Sunday Ayedun has appeared before an Ibadan Magistrate Court sitting at Iwo Road, for defrauding his boss to tune of two million Naira through the internet.

The suspect who is said to be an employee of the complainant Mrs. Wuraola Amoo is facing a two-count charge bothering on stealing and conspiracy. 

Arraigning the suspect, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Sunday Ogunremi told the court that the suspect cloned the mobile number of his boss without her consent and fraudulently withdrew up to two million Naira from her First Bank account.

According to Ogunremi, and gaining access to the victim’s account, the suspect suddenly turned himself to a philanthropist dashing people money as he liked. 

The suspect pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge and his lawyer, Mrs Christy Gbadeyanka applied for bail on liberal terms. 

The magistrate, Taiwo Oladiran therefore granted him bail in the sum five hundred thousand Naira with two sureties in like sum. 

He said the sureties will submit document of their landed property and current account statement. 

The case has been adjourned to August 20 to commence hearing.

An Ibadan Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of two middle aged men for kidnapping.  

The Suspects, Nasir Lawal, aged 50 and Shamsu Auwa aged 26 are facing sixteen counts charge bothering on kidnapping and collection of Ransom. 

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector  Opeyemi Olagunju told the court that the suspects and others had involved  in various kidnapping  in the state and had collected millions of naira as ransom from their victims.

According to the charge, the places in which the suspects perpetrated their evil acts included Iroko village and Adesakin village both in Ibadan.

The charges were read to the suspects in Hausa language because they did not understand either Yoruba or English language.

There plea was not taken in court.

The Chief Magistrate Mr.  Olamide Hamzat therefore ordered that the suspects be kept at the state CID pending the opening of Agodi Custodial Center. Sunday Ogunyemi

An Ibadan Magistrate Court on Monday ordered the remand of four men, in prison for conducting themselves in manner that could cause panic in public.

The suspect, Semiu Alade (50), Olusola Ojewale (55), Ramoni Oriyomi (47) and Semiu Adisa are facing four count charges bothering on conspiracy to commit felony, unlawful possession of firearms, and being in possession of gun without license.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Mr. S. B Hammed, the suspects committed the offence on February 6, 2020 at Ajibode village along Ijaye/Iseyin road, Ibadan. 

They were alleged to have conspired with some others at large to assault one Isiaka Oladigbolu by attacking and beating him.

Counsel to the suspects moved application for their bail which was rejected by the court.

While ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, O. A.  Hamzat ordered that the suspects be kept at Agodi Correctional Home till March 6, when they will be brought back to the court.
