All indigenes and residents of Ibadanland should rally round the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja for a successful reign, and also avoid distractions that could hinder the development of the ancient city.

The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abubakry Agbotomokekere made the submission during the ’’Coronation Special Jumat Service’’, held at Central Mosque, Oja’ba, Ibadan, Oyo State, as part of lined up activities marking the enthronement of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere who described Oba Ladoja as a well-respected leader whose experience and antecedents would attract more recognition within and outside Ibadanland, appealed to individuals and group of people not to distract the monarch in his vision for Ibadanland and beyond, saying he had no doubt in the leadership skills of the new Olubadan.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere, thereafter, offered special prayers for Olubadan to have successful reign.

Highlight of the Service was presentation of gifts to Oba Ladoja by the Chief Imam of Ibadanland.

Oba Ladoja was in the company of Oloris, Rashidat, Abibat and Bukola Ladoja.

It will be recalled that Oba Rashidi Ladoja was presented with the Staff and Instrument of Office by Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday, September 26th, 2025 at Mapo Ground, Ibadan, Oyo State as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

With the vision of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, there will be environmental uplift and further development that will transform Ibadan for the better.

 A Historian from University of Texas Austin, United States of America, Professor Toyin Falola made this known while delivering the First Olubadan Coronation Lecture in honour of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the Lecture Titled, “Ibadan In History: Issues In Tradition and Modernity“, Professor Falola said, Ibadan was rich in culture and hospitality, noting that, many residents had benefited in no small measure from the ancient city. 

He said, Oba Ladoja would use his wealth of experience as a former politician, industrialist and now as a traditional ruler to make a positive change in the area of education, cleaning of the city and others. 

In a goodwill message, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale described the journey of Oba Ladoja as a unique blend of modernity and deep respect for tradition. 

On his part, the Chairman, Coronation Committee, who is also a former President-General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero said, Oba Ladoja’s reception by all signified that, he is a man of the people, hence, witnessing various programmes as part of activities for his coronation.

Former Commissioner for Health, Oyo State, Dr Azeez Adeduntan has congratulated the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun as he took the staff of office.

In a statement in Ibadan, Dr Adeduntan felicitated with the monarch for the privilege to ascend the throne of his forefathers. 

Dr Adeduntan, who is the All Progressives Congress, APC, Governorship hopeful in Oyo State urged Oba Balogun, to follow the footsteps of his predecessors by working diligently for peace and development of Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria.

He called on the monarch to do his utmost best, in his new role as the chief custodian of the traditions of the people, to preserve and propagate the admirable culture and customs of Ibadanland.

The former Commissioner assured the new Olubadan of his support and cooperation “as the new Olubadan strives to lead our people forward and contribute meaningfully to the development of his domain, Oyo State and the nation’’.

Dr Adeduntan who is also the Osi Bashorun of Ibadanland prayed that the Almighty God would grant Oba Balogun long life, good health and wisdom for a successful reign.

The Olubadan-in- council has nominated the Otun Olubadan of Ibadaland, High Chief Senator Lekan Balogun as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.

According to report, the decision was taken on Thursday during a meeting at the residence of Balogun of Ibadanland, High Chief Owolabi Olakuleyin.


The meeting was moderated by the state government representative in the person of Director of Admin and General Services of Ibadan South East local government.

In attendance were otun Ibadan High Chief Lekan Balogun (Olubadan elect), Balogun of Ibadanland High Chief owolabi Olakuleyin, osi Olubadan High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, otun Balogun of Ibadanland High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola, Olubadan High Chief Eddy Oyewole, Osi Balogun of Ibadanland High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi Adebimpe, Ashipa Balogun of Ibadanland High Chief kolawole Adegbola, and Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland High Chief Dada Ishioye.
