Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has directed the relevant security agencies to ensure that sponsors and perpetrators of the mayhem over chieftaincy issues in Agosasa town, Ipokia Local Government Area of the state are punished.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kunle Somorin, Governor Abiodun condemned the violence and declared that anyone found culpable in the skirmish should be arrested and prosecuted according to the extant laws of the state.

The Governor, who expressed his dissatisfaction over the crisis which he described as unfortunate, said there were legitimate channels for addressing issues of chieftaincy without recourse to violence. 

Prince Dapo Abiodun said he had directed the police to restore peace in the town and fish out those behind the violence with the view to prosecuting them accordingly.

He also gave the assurance that adequate security would be provided in the town, urging the residents to remain calm and go about their normal businesses without fear.

Violence was unleashed on the town during the weekend following disagreements over the choice of a new king, leading to the death of at least one person, while property worth millions of naira were reported to have been destroyed.

The Ogun State Police Command says it has not received details of the reported suspected car part thief found dead under a vehicle at an Ogun mechanic workshop.

The Ogun State Police Command Spokesman Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Abeokuta, said the report of the man suspected to be a thief in Ago Egun area of Idiroko Border in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State has not gotten to the police.

The deceased whose identity could not be ascertained was reportedly found under the vehicle with a hydraulic jack and spanners fueling the speculations that he was about removing some parts of the vehicle when he died.

Islamic leaders in Ogun State have cautioned against impending religious crisis over the proposed imposition of daylight curfew by Oro traditionalists in Ipokia Town of Ipokia Local Government Area.

The religious leaders under the umbrella of League of Imams and Alfas in the state in a statement signed by the Secretary-General, Sheikh Tajudeen Adewunmi.

They expressed concerns over the violation of rights of Muslim faithful by the Oro traditionalists during their festivals.

The Islamic body called for the intervention of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on the possible infringement of rights by the Oro adherents.

The league of Imams and Alfas also called for peaceful coexistence among all religious adherents and leaders, noting that various faiths should recognise and respect the rights of the others.
