The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Johnson Adenola, has stressed the increased investment in fire safety equipment and regular training programs for traders to put an end to recurrent fire incidents.

Mr Adenola made the call during a meeting at the command’s headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, held with traders from Aleshinloye Market to address the persistent issue of fire outbreaks was attended by traders and senior police officers.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso, explained that the meeting was aimed at identifying the root causes of the fire and developing strategies to prevent future occurrences.

Mr Osifeso highlighted improper storage of combustible materials and irregular inspections of electrical items as key factors contributing to the frequent fire outbreaks.

The Commissioner emphasized the importance of proactive measures, including enhanced fire safety infrastructure and continuous education for traders, to mitigate the risks and ensure the safety of lives and property in the market.

The police in Oyo State have announced that they have located and contacted the family members of the man whose skeleton was found in his house recently.

A statement by the police in Oyo State said family members of the deceased confirmed that the deceased’s name was Aderemi John Abiola and that he was last seen around 2018.

The statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Adewale Osifeso, said the discovery was a result of “solid partnership and provision of credible information to the Oyo State Police Command.”

Oyo Police Command said: “Anchoring on the strength of solid communal partnerships and provision of credible information to the Oyo State Police Command, on Sunday 04/09/2022 at about 1400hrs, representatives from the Landlord/ Landlady’s Association of Idi-Orogbo, Adeosun, Life Forte Area, Awotan, Apete, Ibadan reported a case of suspected sudden and unnatural death at Apete Divisional Police Headquarters.

“In swift coordinated response to the information provided, the Divisional Police Officer and a team of crime and forensic detectives approached the three-bedroom block residence of the deceased and found his remains glued to his beddings lying upward with no visible signs of struggle at a glance”.

“Preliminary findings from residents of the community and the driver’s license found in his wallet revealed that the deceased was indeed Aderemi John Abiola and was last seen around 2018, a fact corroborated by family members of the deceased when contacted by detectives of the Command attached to the SCID”.

“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Adebowale Williams while appealing to well-meaning members of the public for assistance regarding the provision of useful information has also directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Command’s apex investigation body, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)”.

In furtherance of the above, the scene has since been cordoned in the interest of public health and safety to enable the completion of the investigation aimed at demystifying the possible cause of death”.

1. Credible and duly processed intelligence by the Oyo State Police Command’s intelligence apparatus has revealed that some hoodlums/ cultists have finalized preparations to adopt and celebrate the 7th of July, 2021, popularly known as “7/7” with retribution among rival gangs and large-scale violence in the state.

2. In view of this, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Ngozi Onadeko, fdc is issuing a strong warning to any person(s) or group under any of these categories with the intent to scuttle the relative tranquility enjoyed in the state to shelve such plans as the command would not sit in docile stupefaction while hoodlums have a field day. 

3. Consequently upon this, the Police Command, in collaboration with sister security agencies will clamp down heavily on organizers, leaders and progenitors of such sinister plans whose aims are targeted at triggering needless episodes of retributions, bloodletting and destruction of innocent lives and properties.

4. In furtherance to the above, the Commissioner of Police wishes to assure the good people of the state of a comprehensive security coverage which includes an increase in its intelligence, operational and tactical apparatus through visible patrols and intelligence driven stop and search across the length and breadth of the state.

5. To this end, parents, guardians and persons of influence are advised to caution their wards and protegees to refrain from any unlawful gathering or assembly with intent to breach the peace of the land as the Oyo State Police Command will arrest and prosecute violators.

6. Also, hoteliers, proprietors of lounges and other recreational facilities are advised against consenting to the use of their facilities/properties to aid cult-related activities as owners of such facilities are liable for prosecution as well.

7. While expressing confidence in the measure of proactivity already in play, the Commissioner of Police wishes to urge all and sundry to remain law abiding and vigilant enough to report any suspicious activity to the police command or nearest police formation, and to go about their businesses without the fear of harassment or molestation from anyone.
