The National Youth Service Scheme, NYSC, is to sanction any corps member found dressed improperly in accordance with the extant laws.

The Coordinator of the newly created NYSC, Southwest Area office, Mr. Emmanuel Attah gave the information during an interview with Radio Nigeria in the Southwest area office, Osogbo, Osun State.

Mr. Attah explained that the NYSC uniform was a national brand and pride of the scheme, which must be respected by all corps as demonstrated by their proper dressing.

He noted that worried by increased reported cases of improper dressing among corps members, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shuaib Ibrahim had directed all the area coordinators in the 6 geopolitical zones to enforce the dress code and sanction anyone that flouts it in accordance with the extant laws.

The Southwest Coordinator also appealed to stakeholders and partners of the scheme, particularly the higher institutions to check the embarrassing trend of mobilising unqualified candidates into the one year compulsory national service programme.

Mr. Attah who noted that the society whom the affected corps members are to serve would be the victims of such fraudulent practice, particularly young ones in primary and secondary schools who they are expected to teach during their service year.

On the need for the establishment of NYSC area offices across the geopolitical zones, Mr. Attah explained that such was to effectively decentranlise its operations with a view to bringing service closer to the people as the number of qualified participants for the programme increased by the day.

The immediate past State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun, Mr Emmanuel Attah has been appointed as the first Zonal Coordinator of the newly established Zonal Office of the corps in Osun.

Radio Nigeria gathered that Attah was given the appointment (letter) by the National Headquarters of the corps on Monday and he is expected to resume at the NYSC Zonal Office in Osogbo.

It could be recalled that Mr Attah, who served as Osun NYSC Coordinator from January 2017, was redeployed back to the corps headquarters in Abuja in June 2019 as the Deputy-Director, Trainings and Executive Decisions.

While he served as the State Coordinator in Osun, Mr Attah facilitated the  construction of a modern bakery, garri processing plant and a clinic at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ede.

The bakery and garri processing plant now produce bread and garri which are used to feed corps members during their orientation programme, while the clinic offers health care services to both the NYSC members and their host community.

Mr Attah also put in place medical outreaches in various locations in the state under the NYSC health initiative for rural dwellers, while CCTV cameras were also installed at the NYSC permanent orientation camp.

He also built strong relationship with the state government and the grassroot people and introduced laudable ideas and innovations which made the Osun NYSC the model of the scheme in the country.

Mr Adewale Adegoke, the current NYSC Coordinator in Osun, had disclosed to newsmen at a Press Conference that the corps had established a South-West Area Office in Osun.

Mr Adegoke hinted that Osun emerged as the zonal headquarters of the scheme for the South-West Zone, saying the development would decentralize the scheme’s activities and make monitoring of corps members easier.

He said the Zonal Office would be in charge of all the six states in the South-West Zone and would be saddled with the responsibility of monitoring the mobilization of corps members.
