The National Youth Service Scheme, NYSC, is to sanction any corps member found dressed improperly in accordance with the extant laws.

The Coordinator of the newly created NYSC, Southwest Area office, Mr. Emmanuel Attah gave the information during an interview with Radio Nigeria in the Southwest area office, Osogbo, Osun State.

Mr. Attah explained that the NYSC uniform was a national brand and pride of the scheme, which must be respected by all corps as demonstrated by their proper dressing.

He noted that worried by increased reported cases of improper dressing among corps members, the NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Shuaib Ibrahim had directed all the area coordinators in the 6 geopolitical zones to enforce the dress code and sanction anyone that flouts it in accordance with the extant laws.

The Southwest Coordinator also appealed to stakeholders and partners of the scheme, particularly the higher institutions to check the embarrassing trend of mobilising unqualified candidates into the one year compulsory national service programme.

Mr. Attah who noted that the society whom the affected corps members are to serve would be the victims of such fraudulent practice, particularly young ones in primary and secondary schools who they are expected to teach during their service year.

On the need for the establishment of NYSC area offices across the geopolitical zones, Mr. Attah explained that such was to effectively decentranlise its operations with a view to bringing service closer to the people as the number of qualified participants for the programme increased by the day.
